Caldwell House, Singapore
Caldwell House was a historical building designed and built by George Drumgoole Coleman from 1840 to 1841 in Singapore. It was the oldest building of the CHIJMES complex since 1854. It currently serves as a venue known as the Alcove at Caldwell House for wedding functions. History The house was one of the architecture designs of the Irish civil architect George Drumgoole Coleman in Singapore, it was built from 1840 to 1841 for H. C. Caldwell, a senior clerk to the Magistrates in Singapore. In August 1852, Father Jean-Marie Beurel purchased the house for the Sisters of the Holy Infant Jesus on his own expense of 4,000 francs. This formed the beginning of the Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus in Singapore. Beurel had initially gone to France in 1851 to recruit four sisters as teachers, but due to various causes there was only one left, so it was not possible to start a school. The Samuel Caldwell House is a historic house in the village of Caldwell, Ohio, United States. Erected in 1832, it is the oldest house in the village.Owen, Lorrie K., ed. Surveyor Robert Caldwell settled at the site of the present house in 1809, becoming the first settler in the vicinity. His son Samuel expanded the farm and began to diversify, building both a gristmill and a sawmill on his property by 1836. Noble County was formed in 1851, being the last of Ohio's counties to be created. Soon after the county's establishment, Caldwell agreed to donate land on his farm for public purposes; in 1857, part of this land was chosen as the site of the new county seat, and he was made the namesake of the new village. Caldwell-Cobb-Love House is a historic home located at Lincolnton, Lincoln County, North Carolina. It was built about 1841 as a transitional Federal / Greek Revival dwelling and extensively remodeled in the Victorian Cottage style about 1877. It was again remodeled and enlarged at the turn of the 20th century. The two-story, frame dwelling features three cross gable ells, wall dormers, inset porch, and balconies.
