Caetés Forest
The Caetés forest (Portuguese ) is an area in the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo that preserves larger stretches of old-growth in the Atlantic rainforest. The area lies within the municipalities of Castelo, Vargem Alta, Domingos Martins, Venda Nova do Imigrante, and Alfredo Chaves. The Caetés forest is known for its population of the cherry-throated tanager, a critically endangered bird confirmed in the area in 2003, and of other critically endangered species. The forest is threatened by deforestation. A proposal to establish a public nature reserve to protect the entire forest was abandoned by the local government in 2015 due to local opposition. A ''fazenda'' () is a plantation found throughout Brazil during the colonial period (16th - 18th centuries). They were concentrated primarily in the northeastern region, where sugar was produced in the ''engenhos'', expanding during the 19th century in the southeastern region to coffee production. Philodendron Spiritus-sancti
''Philodendron spiritus-sancti'' is a species of plant in the genus ''Philodendron'' native to the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo, which is the origin of its scientific name. A member of the section '' Macrobelium'', it has cordate foliage that can grow up to long. The width of the leaf blades is variable, and appears in three different forms known in cultivation. Extremely rare, it was first scientifically described from just one locality on private farmland near the town of Domingos Martins, and is severely threatened by habitat destruction. It is thought that more plants are held by private collectors than in the wild. Maned Sloth
The maned sloth (''Bradypus torquatus'') is a three-toed sloth that is native to South America. It is one of four species of three-toed sloths belonging to the suborder Xenarthra and are placental mammals. They are endemic to the Atlantic coastal rainforest of southeastern and northeastern Brazil, located in the states of Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro and Bahia.
