Caetano Veloso (1971 Album)
''Caetano Veloso'' is the third self-titled album by Caetano Veloso. It was recorded in England, when the artist was in an exile imposed by the Brazilian military dictatorship for being subversive. It is mostly sung in English and portrays a sad tone throughout, reflecting his feelings about homesickness and the absence of his family and friends. It was released first in Europe, and then in Brazil, in 1971. Background Between 1969 and 1971, Veloso lived in Chelsea, downtown London, as a consequence of the exile imposed on him by the Brazilian military dictatorship. The musician shared a home with his fellow exilé and friend Gilberto Gil, their respective wives and their manager. The latter arrived first in Europe and was tasked with searching for a place for them to stay. Caetano Emanuel Viana Teles Veloso (; born 7 August 1942) is a Brazilian composer, singer, guitarist, writer, and political activist. Veloso first became known for his participation in the Brazilian musical movement Tropicália, which encompassed theatre, poetry and music in the 1960s, at the beginning of the Military dictatorship in Brazil, Brazilian military dictatorship that 1964 Brazilian coup d'état, took power in 1964. He has remained a constant creative influence and best-selling performing artist and composer ever since. Lou Reizner (1934 – June 26, 1977) was an American record producer, A&R executive and head of Mercury Records' European operations. He produced Rod Stewart's first two solo albums, the orchestral version of The Who's rock opera '' Tommy'', and Rick Wakeman's '' Journey to the Centre of the Earth''. As an A&R executive, he signed Van der Graaf Generator and arranged a US deal for David Bowie. Reggae () is a music genre that originated in Jamaica during the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its Jamaican diaspora, diaspora.
