The U Sports Defenceman of the Year is the annual award presented to the U Sports men's ice hockey player who is judged by a committee of the U Sports Men’s Hockey Coaches Association to be the most outstanding defenceman in U Sports. U Sports
U Sports (stylized as U SPORTS) is the national sport governing body for universities in Canada, comprising the majority of degree-granting universities in the country and four regional conferences: Ontario University Athletics (OUA), Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ), Canada West (CW), and Atlantic University Sport (AUS). Ice Hockey
Ice hockey (or simply hockey in North America) is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an Ice rink, ice skating rink with Ice hockey rink, lines and markings specific to the sport. Marc-André Dorion
Marc-André Dorion (born March 30, 1987) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman. He is currently playing with Black Wings Linz in the ICE Hockey League (ICEHL). Playing career Dorion played five seasons (2003–2008) in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and was named to the QMJHL First All-Star Team for the 2007–08 QMJHL season. He went on to play four seasons of Canadian College hockey (2008–2012) with McGill University in the Quebec Student Sport Federation of Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) where he graduated as McGill's all-time top-scoring defenceman with 192 points in 174 games. Andrew Hotham
Andrew Hotham (born August 29, 1986) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman. He previously played four seasons with the Welsh EIHL team Cardiff Devils, claiming five trophies and four EIHL defenseman of the year awards. His father Greg (over 200 NHL games) and elder brother Scott also played the sport professionally. Career Following four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), Hotham attended Saint Mary's University in Nova Scotia. Saint Mary's Huskies
The Saint Mary's Huskies are the men's and women's athletic teams that represent Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Their primary home turf is Huskies Stadium, located in the centre of the university's campus. In September 2007, Saint Mary's announced the plans to build the new Homburg Centre for Health & Wellness, that will comprise the current gymnasium (The Tower), the new Dauphinee Arena, and a new building to connect the two. The centre is to be named after Richard Homburg, who provided a $5 million gift to the project, the largest gift the university has received in its 205-year history. The Dauphinee Arena, completed in 2019, has an NHL-sized ice surface and a seating capacity of 875. The Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas are the sports teams that represent the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Jordan Murray (ice Hockey)
Jordan Murray (born December 17, 1992) is a Canadians, Canadian ice hockey defenceman who is currently an unrestricted free agent. He most recently played under contract with Schwenninger Wild Wings of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). Playing career Murray played forward during much of his youth but switched to defence while playing midget AAA hockey for the Moncton Flyers. QMJHL Murray went undrafted in his QMJHL draft year but was later signed by Patrick Roy to join the Quebec Remparts for the 2010-2011 season. At the beginning of training camp, Roy traded Murray to Acadie–Bathurst Titan for a 9th round pick in the 2011 QMJHL draft.
