CFOM
CFOM-FM is a French-language Canadian radio station located in Quebec City, Quebec, licensed to Lévis. The station has a hot adult contemporary format since August 2014. Owned and operated by Cogeco, it broadcasts on 102.9 MHz using a directional antenna with an average effective radiated power of 16,800 watts and a peak effective radiated power of 32,800 watts ( class C1). The station's transmitter is located at Mount Bélair. It used to be an AM station, broadcast at 1240 AM from its inception in December 1967 until 1976, then moved to 920 AM until 1994 and was originally known as CFLS. In 1988, CFLS's then-owner, Radio Etchemin, planned to relocate CFLS from 920 kHz to the FM band at 106.3 MHz, with effective radiated power of 54,350 watts; this application was denied by the CRTC. CFOM (defunct)
CFOM was a radio station in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. It was the only full-time English language radio station in the city until it was shut down in 1976. History The station was launched in 1949, with the call sign CJNT, later changing to CJQC in 1953. It finally adopted the CFOM call sign, which it retained for the remainder of its existence, in 1964. For its entire history, it was owned by Goodwill Broadcasters of Quebec. The station was a privately owned affiliate of CBC Radio's main network, the Trans-Canada Network (forerunner of today's CBC Radio One). Until 1963, it was also a supplementary affiliate of CBC Radio's second network, the Dominion Network. At the time Quebec City was the only provincial capital without a CBC-owned and -operated English-language radio station. Souvenirs Garantis ''( French for "Memories Guaranteed")'' was a network of French-language classic hits radio stations broadcasting throughout Quebec, Canada. Anchored by CFOM-FM 102.9 in Quebec City, the format was created by Corus Entertainment, as part of the Corus Québec group of stations. Under Corus ownership, ''Souvenirs Garantis'' stations were based in all major Quebec markets, except for Montreal, which had no station carrying the format full-time. The format featured a largely defined classic hits format, including music from the 1970s to the 1990s but mostly from the 1970s and 1980s. The branding was first used by CFOM-FM in 2005, though that station carried an oldies format since 1995. CFOM-FM acted as the flagship station of the ''Souvenirs Garantis'' network. CJMF-FM is a French-language Canadian radio station located in Quebec City, Quebec. Owned and operated by Cogeco, it broadcasts on 93.3 MHz with an effective radiated power of 32,960 watts ( class C1) using an omnidirectional antenna. The station's transmitter is located at Mount Bélair. The station has a hybrid talk and mainstream rock format and identifies itself as ''FM 93''. Prior to September 2009, the station was known as ''Le 93,3'' with a classic rock/talk format. The station's playlist, however, is heavy on classic rock still. CJMF-FM was the #1 station in the Quebec City market in the late 1980s, especially while it aired "Le Zoo" with Gilles Parent, Alain Dumas and Michel Morin, from 1984 to 1990. In broadcasting and radio communications, a call sign (also known as a call name or call letters—and historically as a call signal—or abbreviated as a call) is a unique identifier for a transmitter station. A call sign can be formally assigned by a government agency, informally adopted by individuals or organizations, or even cryptographically encoded to disguise a station's identity. The use of call signs as unique identifiers dates to the landline railroad telegraph system. Because there was only one telegraph line linking all railroad stations, there needed to be a way to address each one when sending a telegram. CBV-FM is a Canadian radio station, which broadcasts the programming of Radio-Canada's Première network in Quebec City. The station broadcasts at 106.3 FM from Mount Bélair. The station was first launched in 1934 as AM 950 CRCK, Quebec City's second-oldest radio station. It was an affiliate of the Canadian Radio Broadcasting Commission, airing programming in both English and French. It became a part of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in 1936. It adopted the callsign CBV in 1938, becoming the second station in Radio-Canada's French radio network. In 1941, CBV moved to 980 kHz. In 1974, CBVX-FM, broadcasting Radio-Canada's FM network, was launched. It was initially known as CBV-FM. On July 4, 1997, the CBC received CRTC approval to convert CBV to 106.3 FM. Ici Radio-Canada Première (formerly Première Chaîne) is a Canadian French-language radio network, the news and information service of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (known as Société Radio-Canada in French), the public broadcaster of Canada. It is the French counterpart of CBC Radio One, the CBC's similar English-language radio network. The service is available across Canada, although not as widely as CBC Radio One.
