The Most Outstanding Rookie Award is annually awarded to the player judged to be the best player in his first year in the Canadian Football League. The two nominees for the award are the Frank M. The Canadian Football League (CFL; , LCF) is a Professional gridiron football, professional Canadian football league in Canada. The 1976 CFL season is considered to be the 23rd season in modern-day Canadian football, although it is officially the 19th Canadian Football League season. CFL news in 1976 For the first time in Canadian Football League history, more than two million fans attended CFL games, with a total attendance of 2,029,586. 1981 CFL Season
The 1981 CFL season is considered to be the 28th season in modern-day Canadian football, although it is officially the 24th Canadian Football League season. CFL News in 1981 The Eastern and Western Football Conferences, which had carried on as separate and autonomous entities since the founding of the CFL in 1958, agreed to a full merger prior to the start of the 1981 season. With the merger, the Eastern and Western Football Conferences were dissolved and renamed as the East and West Divisions. The merger authorized the CFL to have full authority over decisions, including the adoption of a full interlocking schedule for both divisions. Edmonton Eskimos
The Edmonton Elks are a professional Canadian football team based in Edmonton, Alberta. The club competes in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a member of the league's West Division and plays their home games at Commonwealth Stadium. Brian Kelly (born March 27, 1956) is an American former professional gridiron football player who was a wide receiver for nine seasons with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League (CFL). Playing from 1979 to 1987, he caught 575 passes for 11,169 yards and 97 touchdowns. Kelly was a member of 5 Grey Cup championship teams in Edmonton. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are a professional Canadian football team based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Joe Poplawski
Joe Poplawski (born August 2, 1957) is a former professional Canadian football receiver who played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Canadian Football League (CFL) from 1978 to 1986. Professional career Poplawski was originally a territorial exemption his hometown team the Edmonton Eskimos and prior to the beginning of the 1978 season he was traded to the Bombers in exchange for their star receiver Tom Scott. With 75 receptions for 998 yards and 8 touchdowns, Poplawski won the CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie Award in 1978. That season he was also selected to the Western Conference and CFL all-star team as a wide receiver. Despite a short career Poplawski achieved many more accolades including twice winning the Most Outstanding Canadian awards in 1981 and 1986. Leon Bright
Leon "Pop" Bright, Jr. (born May 19, 1955 in Starke, Florida) is a former Gridiron football player in the Canadian Football League for four years and in the National Football League for five years. He played Jr high school ball at Thomas Jefferson Jr High, high school football at Merritt Island High School in Merritt Island, Florida and was on the 1972 Merritt Island High, Florida Class AAAA state championship team. Bright was named to the FHSAA's All-Century Team which selected the Top 33 players in the 100-year history of high school football in the state of Florida's history. He played college football at Florida State University where he still holds the record for most yards on a kickoff return, which resulted in a touchdown.
