Buskerud
Buskerud () is a Counties of Norway, county and a current electoral district in Norway, bordering Akershus, Oslo, Innlandet, Vestland, Telemark and Vestfold. The region extends from the Oslofjord and Drammensfjorden in the southeast to Hardangervidda mountain range in the northwest. The county administration was in modern times located in Drammen. Buskerud was merged with Akershus and Østfold into the newly created Viken (county), Viken County on 1 January 2020. On 23 February 2022, the Viken County Council voted in a 49 against 38 decision to submit an application to the Norwegian government for a county demerger. Due to this, Buskerud (except the area forming the defunct municipalities of Røyken and Hurum) was re-established in 2024. Buskerud Manor
Buskerud Manor ( or ''Buskerud gård på Modum'') was a former estate (land), estate and manor located on a large farm in Buskerud county, Norway. The modern county of Buskerud is named for the estate. History The farm was located on the west side of Drammenselva at Åmot, Buskerud, Aamot in what is now Modum Municipality. During the Middle Ages, the property was operated by the Ancient Diocese of Hamar, Diocese of Hamar. Buskerud was a monastic estate until 1536. After the Protestant Reformation, it was the residence of officers of the king's army. From 1762, it was owned by members of the Collett family, including supreme court justice Peter Collett (judge), Peter Collett. The main building was built in 1755 and rebuilt by landowner Peter Collett (1740–1786) after he acquired the property in 1763. Viken (county)
Viken was a short-lived county in Norway that existed from 1 January 2020 to 1 January 2024. Its name was derived from the historical region in present-day Norway and Sweden. The county was located in Eastern Norway when it was established on 1 January 2020 by the merger of Akershus, Buskerud and Østfold with the addition of the municipalities of Jevnaker, Lunner and the former Svelvik Municipality. Both its creation and its name—described as unhistorical by historians—were controversial from the onset, the merger was resisted by all the three counties and the new county had an approval rating of about 20% in the region. Viken has been compared to gerrymandering. The newly constructed coat of arms of Viken lacked a historical basis and was described by experts as an amateurish logo that did not adhere to the rules of heraldry, and as "three flying saucers under a cap." Counties Of Norway
There are 15 counties in Norway. The 15 county, counties are administrative division, administrative regions that are the first-level administrative divisions of Norway. The counties are further subdivided into 357 municipalities of Norway, municipalities (). The island territories of Svalbard and Jan Mayen are outside the county divisions and they are ruled directly from the national level. The capital city of Oslo is both a county and a municipality. In 2017, the Solberg's Cabinet, Solberg government decided to abolish some of the counties and to merge them with other counties to form larger ones, reducing the number of counties from 19 to 11, which was implemented on 1 January 2020. Drammenselva
Drammenselva () is a river in Buskerud Counties of Norway, county, southeastern Norway. Location Drammenselva is one of the largest rivers in Norway, with a drainage basin of about and a Discharge (hydrology), discharge of per second. Drammen River's total length is making it the fifth longest river in Norway. Its 48 km course runs from Tyrifjorden in the north to Drammensfjord in the south, where it cuts through the centre of the city of Drammen (town), Drammen. Akershus
Akershus () is a county in Norway, with Oslo as its administrative centre, though Oslo is not located within Akershus. Drammensfjorden
Drammensfjord () is a fjord in along the border of Akershus and Buskerud counties in Norway that connects to Ytre Oslofjord on the west side. It stretches about to the north and northeast. The Drammenselva river discharges into the head of the fjord. The fjord shares its name with the city of Drammen, which is located at the head of the fjord. Drammen Municipality is located on its west and north sides. The land on the east side of the fjord is called ''Hurumhalvøya'' or the Hurum peninsula and this is located in Asker Municipality. The peninsula lies between the Drammensfjord and the Oslofjord. The fjord narrows to a strait at Svelvik on the west side and Verket in Asker on the east side. The strait is crossed by an automobile ferry. Åmot is a village in Modum municipality in Buskerud, Norway. Located just south of Geithus, the two villages have grown closer to each other. They have a combined population of 5,694. History Four waterfalls (Embretsfoss, Døvikfoss, Kongsfoss and Haugfoss) in the immediate vicinity have contributed greatly to the industrial history of Åmot. Eastern Norway (, ) is the geographical Regions of Norway, region of the south-eastern part of Norway. Drammen () is a city and municipality in Buskerud county, Norway. The port and river city of Drammen is centrally located in the south-eastern and most populated part of Norway. Vestfold
Vestfold () is a county and a current electoral district in Norway. Located on the western shore of the Oslofjord, it borders Buskerud and Telemark counties. The county administration is located in Tønsberg, Norway's oldest city, and the largest city is Sandefjord. With the exception of the city-county of Oslo, Vestfold is the smallest county in Norway by area. Vestfold is located west of the Oslofjord, as the name indicates.
