New Cathedral, Brescia
The Duomo Nuovo or New Cathedral is the largest Catholic Church, Catholic church in Brescia, Italy. History Construction was begun in 1604 at the site where the paleo-Christian 5th-6th century basilica of ''San Pietro de Dom'' was located. The original commission was given to Andrea Palladio, but it was subsequently granted to the architect Giovanni Battista Lantana. He was aided by Pietro Maria Bagnadore. Work was interrupted during a season of plague around 1630. Work slowly but sporadically restarted on the construction, but the final impetus for completion came in the nineteenth century. The facade was designed by Giovan Battista Marchetti, Giovanni Battista and Antonio Marchetti, while the dome, completed only in 1825, was designed by Luigi Cagnola and with its 80 meters is one of the highest in Italy. Perazzi is a manufacturer of precision shotguns from Brescia, Italy. The company sells hunting and sporting models of shotguns noted for their removable trigger groups, high quality, and high prices (US$7,500–$440,000). Its founder is Daniele Perazzi, and his family owns and operates it. Perazzi shotguns are marketed as quality guns and are priced accordingly. The factory is in Botticino near Brescia, Italy. Gruppo Lucchini was the third largest Italian steel group after Gruppo Riva and Techint, with a 2005 production of 3.5 million tonnes. It specialized in high-quality long and special carbon steel products. The Lombards () or Longobards () were a Germanic people who conquered most of the Italian Peninsula between 568 and 774. The medieval Lombard historian Paul the Deacon wrote in the ''History of the Lombards'' (written between 787 and 796) that the Lombards descended from a small tribe called the Winnili,: "From Proto-Germanic '' winna-'', meaning "to fight, win" who dwelt in northern Germany before migrating to seek new lands. San Salvatore (or, for most of its existence, Santa Giulia) is a former monastery in Brescia, Lombardy, northern Italy, now turned into a museum.
