Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. is an American video game developer and Video game publisher, publisher based in Irvine, California, and a subsidiary of Activision Blizzard. Originally founded in 1991, the company is best known for producing the highly influential massively multiplayer online role-playing game ''World of Warcraft'' (2004) as well as the multi million-selling video game franchises ''Diablo (series), Diablo,'' ''StarCraft'', and ''Overwatch''. Proletariat, Inc. (also known as Blizzard Boston) is an American video game developer based in Boston, Massachusetts. It was founded by Seth Sivak and former Zynga industry veterans in 2012. The company was acquired by Blizzard Entertainment in 2022. Proletariat, Inc. has developed multiple independent games and launched its best-known game, '' Spellbreak'' in September 2020. History After Zynga closed its Boston studio in October 2012, Seth Sivak and four other former developers at Boston Zynga formed a new independent studio, Proletariat Inc. ''StarCraft'' is a Real time strategy game, real-time strategy video game developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment for Microsoft Windows. The first installment of the StarCraft, video game series of the same name, it was released in 1998. ''Diablo'' is an action role-playing video game developed by Blizzard North and released by Blizzard Entertainment in January 1997, and is the first installment in the video game series of the same name. ''Warcraft: Orcs & Humans'' is a real-time strategy game (RTS) developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment, and published by Interplay Productions in Europe. It was released for MS-DOS in North America on November 15, 1994, and for Classic Mac OS, Mac OS in early 1996. The MS-DOS version was re-released by Sold-Out Software in 2002. Although ''Warcraft: Orcs & Humans'' is not the first RTS game to have offered multiplayer gameplay, it persuaded a wider audience that multiplayer capabilities were essential for future RTS games.
