Black Canary
Black Canary is the name of two superheroines appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. As one of the earliest female superheroes in the DC Comics universe, the character has made numerous appearances in prominent team-up titles, including the ''Justice Society of America'' and Justice League, ''Justice League of America''. The Black Canary persona has been adopted by two individuals, portrayed as legacy heroes with a mother-daughter relationship between the two. Following DC's New 52 initiative, Black Canary was briefly Composite character, amalgamated as a single character before the mother-and-daughter dynamic was restored to continuity. Dinah Drake, the original Black Canary, was created by the writer-artist team of Robert Kanigher and Carmine Infantino, the character debuted in ''Flash Comics'' #86 on July 31, 1947 (cover dated August 1947) in the Golden Age of Comic Books. The New 52
The New 52 was the 2011 revamp and relaunch by DC Comics of its entire Line (comics), line of ongoing monthly superhero American comic books, comic books. Following the conclusion of the "Flashpoint (comics), Flashpoint" Fictional crossover, crossover storyline, DC cancelled all its existing titles and debuted 52 new series in September 2011. Among the renumbered series were ''Action Comics'' and ''Detective Comics'', which had retained their original numbering since the 1930s. The relaunch included changes to the publishing format; for example, print and digital comics began to be released on the same day. New titles were released to bring the number of ongoing monthly series to 52. Various changes were also made to DC Universe, DC's fictional universe to entice new readers, including changes to DC's internal continuity to make characters more modern and accessible. Birds Of Prey (TV Series)
''Birds of Prey'' is an American Superhero fiction, superhero television series that was developed by Laeta Kalogridis. The series aired on The WB from October 9, 2002 to February 19, 2003 and is loosely based on the DC Comics series Birds of Prey (team), of the same name. The series takes place in a Gotham City abandoned by Batman. The suits used in the Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher ''Batman'' films were used (albeit repainted) in the series, and the initial trailers for the series used footage of Michael Keaton (as Bruce Wayne (1989 film series character), Bruce Wayne / Batman) and Michelle Pfeiffer (as Selina Kyle (1989 film series character), Selina Kyle / Catwoman) from ''Batman Returns'', indicating that at one point in the series' development, it was intended to exist in a continuity adjacent to the Tim Burton ''Batman'' films. Rachel Skarsten
Rachel Skarsten (born 23 April, 1985) is a Canadian actress. She is known for playing Dinah Lance in ''Birds of Prey'' (2002–2003), Tamsin in ''Lost Girl'' (2013–2015), Queen Elizabeth I in ''Reign'' (2014–2017), and Beth Kane in ''Batwoman'' (2019–2022). Early life Skarsten was born in Toronto, Ontario. Her father Dr. Stan Skarsten was from Bergen, Norway, whilst her mother, Mary Aileen Self Skarsten, grew up in India. She also has a younger brother. Skarsten grew up in northern Toronto, and spent time in Bergen during her youth. Skarsten trained with the Royal Academy of Dance for 12 years, but after an ankle injury she gave up her dancing career and turned to hockey. In 2002 she played goalie for the Toronto Leaside Wildcats. She attended Claude Watson School for the Arts from grades 4 to 8, majoring in visual arts and the cello. Birds Of Prey (team)
The Birds of Prey is a superhero team featured in several American comic book ongoing series, series, miniseries, and special editions published by DC Comics since 1996. The book's premise originated as a partnership between Black Canary and Barbara Gordon, who had adopted the codename Oracle at the time, but has expanded to include additional Superhero#Female superheroes and villains, superheroines. The team name "Birds of Prey" was attributed to DC assistant editor Frank Pittarese in the text page of the first issue. The group is initially based in Gotham City and later operates in Metropolis (comics), Metropolis and then relocates once more to "Platinum Flats", California, a new locale introduced in ''Birds of Prey'' in 2008.
