Bishopstown Hurlers
Bishopstown () is a suburb of Cork, located in the south west of the city. It is made-up of the townlands of Ballineaspigbeg and Ballineaspigmore (sometimes spelled Ballinaspigmore), and is located in the civil parish of St. Finbar's in the historical Barony of Cork. It is near the town of Ballincollig, a satellite of Cork City, and is home to a number of schools and colleges. It also borders the neighbouring suburbs of Wilton and Glasheen. Though it is sometimes suggested that the name of the area derives from an early 18th-century bishop who built his country residence there, the name can be reputedly traced back further and found in sources dating to the 16th century. Scouting Ireland () is one of the largest youth movements on the island of Ireland, a voluntary educational movement for young people with over 45,000 members, including over 11,000 adult volunteers . Of the 750,000 people between the ages of 6 and 18 in Ireland, over 6% are involved with the organisation. Michael Bradley (born 17 November 1962) is a former Munster and Irish rugby union player. He is the current head coach of Italian United Rugby Championship side Zebre. Bishopstown Stadium is an association football stadium located in Bishopstown on the western outskirts of Cork, Ireland. It is formerly the home ground of League of Ireland men's club Cork City FC and League of Ireland Women's League club Cork City WFC. It is used as a training ground by Cork City. History Built in the early 1990s, the stadium was developed as a new home for Cork City FC ahead of the 1993/94 season. However, the move to Bishopstown proved costly and unpopular with fans, while the condition of the pitch quickly became "notorious". As the venue was "not fit for purpose", a number of Cork City home games were played in other venues. Bishopstown Hurling and Football Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Bishopstown, Cork, Ireland. The club is affiliated to the Seandún Board and fields teams in Gaelic football, hurling and camogie. History Located in the suburb of Bishopstown in the southwest of Cork, Bishopstown Hurling and Football Club was founded in 1957. Bishopstown had it's first success in 1971 when the club claimed the City JFC title. This was followed in 1974 with the Cork IFC title after a defeat of Newcestown in the final.
