Big Brother (German TV Series)
''Big Brother'' is the German version of the international reality television franchise ''Big Brother (franchise), Big Brother'' created by producer John de Mol Jr. in 1997. Following the premise of other versions of the format, the show followed a number of contestants, known as housemates, who are isolated from the outside world for an extended period of time in a custom-built house. Each week, one of the housemates is evicted by a public vote, with the last housemate remaining winning a cash prize. ''Big Brother'' premiered on 28 February 2000 and ran for eleven seasons on RTL Zwei (formerly spelled RTL 2 and RTL II) before the network cancelled it in September 2011. ''Big Brother'' returned on 22 September 2015 on sixx, and lasted for one season. After a 5-year break, Sat.1 rebooted the series on 10 February 2020. Reality television is a genre of television programming that documents purportedly unscripted real-life situations, often starring ordinary people rather than professional actors. Cindy Aus Marzahn
Ilka Bessin (born 18 November 1971) is a German comedian and actress, best known for her role as Cindy aus Marzahn (German for "Cindy from Marzahn"). Early life Ilka Bessin was born in Luckenwalde, East Germany. After finishing school, she studied culinary arts and later trained to be a hotel manager. She worked as a chef until the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, and Germany was reunified. After that she became a bartender and a discothèque manager. In 1999, she began a totally new career as an entertainment director and comedy performer on a cruise liner. It was there that she invented her most famous character "Cindy aus Marzahn." Big Brother (German Season 4)
Season four of Big Brother Germany (Official title: ''Big Brother: the Battle'') lasted from 31 March 2003 to 7 July 2003 and was shown on RTL 2. Season summary After a disappointing third season and a two-year absence, Big Brother returned in 2003 with lower expectations and Aleks Bechtel now as the only main host. Copying the "Battle"-format from the Netherlands, the season lasted for 98 Days, making it the shortest season on BB Germany back then. Eight housemates entered the house on Day 1 with 11 more contestants joining them throughout the season after these intruders lived together on a secret place called "the exile" on Majorca. There were two areas, one "poor" and one "rich" area. When one team won a match, they moved to the rich area and the other had to go to the poor area. The season was won by Jan Geilhufe. Season three of Big Brother Germany lasted from 27 January 2001 to 12 May 2001 and was aired on RTL and RTL Zwei. Season summary After a very successful second season the producers did not hesitate to start the third installment of the show already a scarce month after the end of the second season with keeping the basic format the same. However, the producers introduced three twists in hope of keeping the excitement up: The first one was that Coco and Katja, a dating couple entered the house together which marked the first time that two housemates knew each other before the show officially (several contestants met at auditions in former seasons). Also, every housemate had now three nominations point to give out - two for the least liked and one for the second least liked person in the house. Season two of Big Brother Germany ran from 16 September 2000 to 31 December 2000 and was shown on RTL Zwei. Season summary After the runaway success of the first season, expectations were very high for the sophomore season. Significant changes were that the producers dared to air the nominations and eviction shows on RTL and gave it the prime slot at 8.15 pm Saturday evening. Oliver Geissen and Aleks Bechtel replaced the less known Percy Hoven and Sophie Rosentreter as hosts of the show and an additional format called ''Family and Friends'' was introduced being aired one day after the last nomination–eviction on Sunday afternoon. Daily recaps remained to be aired on RTL 2 but due to the heavy number of voluntary exits and replace entries several ''live specials'' were aired during the week, often only announced to be aired on the very same day. Big Brother is a character and symbol in George Orwell's dystopian 1949 novel '' Nineteen Eighty-Four''. He is ostensibly the leader of Oceania, a totalitarian state wherein the ruling party, Ingsoc, wields total power "for its own sake" over the inhabitants. The ubiquitous slogan "Big Brother is watching you" serves as a constant reminder that Party members are not entitled to privacy. They are subject to constant surveillance to ensure their ideological purity. This is primarily through omnipresent telescreens that provide two-way video communication and constantly blare propaganda. This close surveillance does not extend to the "proles", who constitute the majority of Oceanic society.
