Early life Slattery grew up in Rockhampton, Queensland, where he attended Frenchville State School. Bridget Bevan (née Vaughan; baptised 30 October 1698 – 11 December 1779), also known as Madam Bevan, was a Welsh educationalist and public benefactor. She was the chief supporter of Griffith Jones and his system of circulating schools. Life Bridget Bevan was born at Derllys Court, Llannewydd, in Carmarthenshire, Wales, in 1698. She was the youngest daughter of the philanthropist John Vaughan (1663–1722), a patron of the Society for the Promotion of Christian Knowledge (SPCK) schools in the county, and his wife, Elizabeth Thomas (d. 1721). Brian Eyrl Bevan (24 January 1924 – 3 June 1991), also known by the nickname of "Wing Wizard", was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. He became the only player ever to be inducted into both the Australian Rugby League Hall of Fame and British Rugby League Hall of Fame. Billy Bevan (born William Bevan Harris; 29 September 1887 – 26 November 1957) was an Australian-born vaudevillian who became an American film actor. He appeared in more than 250 American films from 1916 to 1952. He died just before new audiences discovered him in Robert Youngson's silent-comedy compilations. The Youngson films mispronounce his name as "Be-VAN"; Bevan himself offered the proper pronunciation in a ''Voice of Hollywood'' reel in 1930: "Bevan" rhyming with "seven". William Arnold Bevan, Sr. (March 26, 1913 – August 26, 1975) was an American football player and coach. He played college football at the University of Minnesota and was a consensus selection at the guard position on the 1934 College Football All-America Team. Biography He grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota, and graduated from St. Paul Central High School. He then enrolled at the University of Minnesota, where he was a member of the Minnesota Golden Gophers football team under head coach Bernie Bierman. Beverley Bevan (born 25 November 1944) is an English rock musician who was the drummer and one of the original members of the Move and Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). Benjamin Bevan
Benjamin Bevan (26 December 1773 — 2 July 1833) was a British civil engineer, noted for his proof of the equivalence of the elastic moduli of ice and water. He was a principal engineer on the Grand Junction Canal. Bevan was born on Boxing Day in 1773; his parents were Joseph Bevan, a yeoman of Ridgmont, and Mary Ravens. He inherited his father's farm and holdings at the age of nine. He had five children with his wife Mary Allen, whom he married in 1799. Prior to entering the engineering profession, he worked as a brewer, but was encouraged to take up engineering after meeting the geologist William Smith. In 1802 he completed his first engineering project; a redesign of the Lake Bridge at Leighton Buzzard. Arthur Bevan
Arthur Bevan (c. 1687 – 6 March 1742), of Laugharne, Carmarthenshire, was a Welsh lawyer and Whig politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1727 to 1741. Bevan was the eldest surviving son of Zachary Bevan and his wife Sarah Bayly of Laugharne. He matriculated at Brasenose College, Oxford on 28 February 1705, aged 17. Also in 1705, he was admitted at Middle Temple and was called to the bar in 1712. He married Bridget Vaughan, daughter of John Vaughan of Derllys, Carmarthen. from a junior branch of the Vaughans of Golden Grove who led the Whig interest in Carmarthen in the seventeenth century. Alan Bevan
Alan Bevan is a piper and current pipe major of the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band. Life Before joining the Simon Fraser University band in 1995, he was pipe major of the Grade 1 Abbotsford Police Pipe Band. Bevan graduated from Simon Fraser University in 1999, and is a practising lawyer. His wife Bonnie and his two sons, Alastair and Callum also play in the band. Bevan took over as pipe major of Simon Fraser University when Terry Lee stepped down as pipe major in 2013, after 36 years in the role.
