Benapole
Benapole () is a town at Sharsha Upazila in the Jessore District of Bangladesh. The Petrapole Customs station of India is situated across the border and since 1947, many people have travelled between what is now Bangladesh and India through Benapole Customs / Land port station. This is one of important rail transit point of railway link between Bangladesh and India. Urbanization of Benapole started in the 1990s along the Grand Trunk Road. In April 1971, the operational area of the sector 8 comprised the districts of Kushtia, Jessore, Khulna, Barisal, Faridpur and Patuakhali. At the end of May the sector was reconstituted and comprised the districts of Kuhstia, Jessore, Khulna, Satkhira and the northern part of Faridpur district. Benapole served as the headquarters of sector 8 in the liberation war. It is the site of the largest land port in Bangladesh. Benapole Border Crossing
The Benapole Border Crossing also known as the Petrapole Crossing (, ) is an international border crossing between Benapole, Jessore District, Jessore, Bangladesh, and Petrapole, North 24 Parganas district, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, India. History At the time of Partition of Bengal (1947) the Radcliffe Line placed the police station areas of Bangaon and Gaighata of Jessore district in India and the area was made a part of 24 Parganas district. After that the land of petrapole went into India. It is a flat plain located in the lower Ganges Delta. After partition of India in 1947, a custom house established between eastern province of Pakistan named East Bengal and West Bengal of India at Benapole-Petrapole border site. In that time the immigration section was controlled by custom house of Pakistan and India. Benapole Railway Station () is a railway station in Bangladesh situated in Benapole of Jessore District, close to the Bangladesh–India border. It is used to import goods from India. Benapole Express
Benapole Express (Train no. 795-796) is a semi non-stop intercity train which runs between Dhaka (capital of Bangladesh) and Benapole. The train connects the capital to an important Land port of Bangladesh. History There was no train service directly from Benapole to Dhaka. So Bangladesh government had decided to operate a new intercity train on Dhaka-Benapole route as the existing train makes 14 stops, taking the total travel time to 10 to 12 hours. In order to reach Dhaka, the passengers of India are facing extreme suffering. The only road to travel depends on the bus. This breakthrough move saves at least 3 to 4 hours as Benapole Express is reaching its destination within 7–8 hours daily. Benapole Land Port
Benapole Land Port, is the largest land port of Bangladesh located in Benapole town of Sharsha Upazila in the Jessore District. This port is used to export-import good with India through Benapole-Petrapole border. This port is governed by Bangladesh Land Port Authority. About 90% of the imported Indian goods enter Bangladesh through this port. History Benapole land port was established as a Land Customs station and later it was turned into a Customs Division in 1984. Sharsha () is an upazila of Jessore District in the Division of Khulna, Bangladesh. Geography Sharsha is located at . It has 82,835 households and an area of 336.28 km2. Petrapole
Petrapole is the Indian side of Petrapole- Benapole border checkpoint between India and Benapole of Bangladesh, on the Bangladesh-India border, near Bongaon in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. Petrapole border is the only land port in south Bengal. It is also the largest land customs station in Asia. Jessore Road
Jessore Road is an International road connecting Shyambazar through Dum Dum in Kolkata, India to Jessore in Bangladesh. While the Dum Dum-Barasat sector is now part of NH 12, the Barasat-Petrapole sector is now part of NH 112. It continues in Bangladesh as N706 from Benapole to Jessore.
