Beer ( cz, pivo) has a long history in what is now the Czech Republic, with brewing taking place in Břevnov Monastery in 993. The city of Brno had the right to brew beer from the 12th century while Plzeň and České Budějovice (Pilsen and Budweis in German), had breweries in the 13th century. The most common Czech beers are pale lagers of pilsner type, with characteristic transparent golden colour, high foaminess and lighter flavour. The Czech Republic has the highest beer consumption per capita in the world. It takes its name from the Bohemian city of Plzeň (german: Pilsen), where the world's first pale lager (now known as Pilsner Urquell) was produced in 1842 by Pilsner Urquell Brewery. Braník (sometimes inaccurately called Bráník) is a district in Prague located in the south of the city, on the east bank of the Vltava. It used to be known for its brewery, but the brewery is now out of business as it ceased operations in 2002. Svijany Brewery () is a brewery in Svijany in the Czech Republic. Established in 1564, it is one of the oldest Czech breweries. The brewery produces an extensive range of unpasteurised lagers, mostly light in color and ranging in strength between 3.2% and 6.5% ABV. Bernard Brewery (officially in Czech ''Rodinný pivovar Bernard'') is a brewery in Humpolec, Czech Republic, founded in 1597. The brewery produces non-pasteurised beers. It is the biggest brewery in the Vysočina Region. In 2009, the beer was first exported to Peru, adding to its existing international markets of countries including Slovakia, Greece, Russia, Sweden, Norway, the UK, Australia, the US, Japan and Brazil. The House of Lobkowicz (''Lobkovicové'' in modern Czech, sg. ''z Lobkovic''; ''Lobkowitz'' in German) is a Czech noble family that dates back to the 14th century and is one of the oldest Bohemian noble families. Zlatopramen
Zlatopramen (meaning "golden well") is a brand of beer that was produced by Drinks Union, later by Heineken in the Krásné Březno brewery. The Zlatopramen brand was first registered in 1967, when it was chosen after a naming competition.
