Beachcombers
''The Beachcombers'' is a Canadian comedy drama television series that ran on CBC Television from October 1, 1972, to December 12, 1990. With over 350 episodes, it is one of the longest-running dramatic series ever made for Canadian English-language television. Series overview ''The Beachcombers'' followed the life of Nick Adonidas (Bruno Gerussi), a Greek Canadian log salvager in British Columbia who earned a living traveling the coastline northwest of Vancouver with his partner Jesse Jim ( Pat John) aboard their logging tug ''Persephone'' tracking down logs that broke away from barges and logging booms. Their chief business competitor is Relic ( Robert Clothier) (whose actual name is Stafford T. Phillips), a somewhat unsavoury person who will occasionally go to great lengths to steal business (and logs) from Nick. The New Beachcombers
''The New Beachcombers'' was a renewal of the ''CBC'' long-running series ''The Beachcombers'', which ran for 19 seasons from 1972 to 1990. A movie of the week directed by Brad Turner was broadcast in November 2002, to commemorate both the ''CBC'' fiftieth anniversary, and the thirtieth anniversary of the original show's first episode. The Movie of the Week, "''The New Beachcombers''" served as a pilot for a new series, "''The New Beachcombers''", that played from 2002 to 2004. A behind-the-scenes documentary film was produced in association with The New Beachcombers, called "''Welcome Back to Molly’s Reach''", that was released in 2003. A final TV movie made after the new series, "''A Beachcombers Christmas''" was aired in 2004. Molly's Reach(7714239258)
Molly's Reach was a fictional restaurant in the real community of Gibson's Landing, British Columbia, during the nineteen years the Canadian television series ''The Beachcombers'' was set there. The series ended in 1990, and the building is now a real restaurant. The show's fictional restaurant was named after the character who owned it, who served as a mother-figure for other characters. A reach is a geographical term for a section of a river. As the town cafe and natural meeting point, where Nick also rented a room as office space for his salvage company, much of the drama happened in and immediately around Molly's Reach. The original structure was built in 1931, and served a variety of purposes, including a second hand store, a general store, a hardware store and a liquor store, prior to serving as a set for the television show. Bruno Gerussi
Bruno Santos Gerussi (7 May 1928 – 21 November 1995) was a Canadian stage and television actor, best known for the lead role in the CBC Television series '' The Beachcombers'' from 1972 to 1990. He also performed onstage at the Stratford Festival, worked in radio, and hosted '' Celebrity Cooks'', a daily cooking/variety show, on CBC from 1975 to 1979 then on the Global Television Network from 1980 to 1987. Early life and education Gerussi was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, as the eldest son of Enrico Gerussi, a coal miner working in Lethbridge, who had trained in Italy as a stonemason, and his wife Teresina Lazzorotto. The two married in 1927 and moved to Medicine Hat. The family subsequently moved to Exshaw, where Enrico worked as a sectionman on the Canadian Pacific Railway. Marc Strange
Marc Strange (July 24, 1941 – May 20, 2012) was a Canadian actor, producer and writer. He and his wife, Lynn Susan, were the co-creators of CBC Television's longest running series, ''The Beachcombers''. Career Strange dropped out of high school and worked on a tobacco farm before trying acting. He appeared in the television film '' The Paper People.'' After playing some supporting roles he returned to Canada, where he and his wife were to write the first episodes of the Beachcombers, a series he was associated with, for its entire 19-year run, drafting its final episode. Jackson Davies (born 17 March 1950) is a Canadian actor. He is best known for his role as RCMP Constable John Constable in the television series ''The Beachcombers'', which he reprised in the TV movies '' The New Beachcombers'' (2002) and ''A Beachcombers Christmas'' (2004). Robert Clothier
Robert Allan Clothier, DFC (October 21, 1921 – February 10, 1999) was a Canadian stage and television actor most famous for his role as Relic on the CBC television series, ''The Beachcombers''. Biography Like many of his contemporaries, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force at an early age. Pat John
Pat John (March 1953 – 13 July 2022) was a First Nations actor from Canada. He played for 19 years in ''The Beachcombers'', the second-longest running series in Canadian television history. John, a member of the shíshálh Nation, was one of the first Indigenous people to appear on television in a non-caricature role. He played Jesse Jim, business partner with Bruno Gerussi in "The Persephone" log-salvaging business on the CBC series. The show became an international hit. John joined the series in 1972, staying until it ended in 1990.
