Basilica churches, many of great architectural significance, can be found throughout France. As of 1923 there are 176 which have been officially designated as minor basilicas by the Catholic Church. They are listed below by Regions of France, region, along with the date of designation. Where no date is given, the church is considered a basilica from the architectural point of view and not from the ecclesiastical. Orcival
Orcival (; Auvergnat: ''Orsivau'') is a commune in the Puy-de-Dôme department in Auvergne in central France. The 12th–13th-century basilica of Notre Dame is a listed monument. It contains many ancient religious objects, including a 12th-century procession statue of the Virgin and Child. The village of Orcival is located in the Vale of Silouet, 26 km from Clermont-Ferrand, west of Mont-Domes and north of Mont-Dore. The basilica was in the Latin West equivalent to a stoa in the Greek East. The building gave its name to the ''basilica'' architectural form. Originally, a basilica was an ancient Roman public building, where courts were held, as well as serving other official and public functions. Lalouvesc
Lalouvesc (; ) is a commune in the Ardèche department in the southern east region of France. Population Sights The Basilica of St. Regis, designed in Byzantine Revival style and completed in 1877, contains the relics of St. John Francis Regis (Jean-François Régis). The windows of the basilica recount the life of the saint and the frescoes in the choir tell the history of pilgrimages to the place. The basilica includes a museum for visitors. The house where the saint died, on 31 December 1640, is located nearby and has been transformed into a sanctuary.
