Ballets By Wayne McGregor
Wayne McGregor, CBE (born 12 March 1970) is a multi award-winning British choreographer and director. He is the Artistic Director of Studio Wayne McGregor and Resident Choreographer of The Royal Ballet. McGregor was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) 2011 for Services to Dance. Biography McGregor was born in Stockport, England, in 1970. He studied dance at Bretton Hall College of the University of Leeds and at the José Limon School in New York. In 1992 he was appointed Choreographer-in-Residence at The Place, London, and in the same year he founded his own company, Random Dance (now Company Wayne McGregor). Company Wayne McGregor was invited to be the first Resident Company at the new Sadler's Wells in 2002. Appointed in 2006, McGregor is the first Resident Choreographer of The Royal Ballet from a contemporary dance background. Stockport
Stockport is a town and Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, borough in Greater Manchester, England, south-east of Manchester, south-west of Ashton-under-Lyne and north of Macclesfield. The River Goyt and River Tame, Greater Manchester, Tame merge to create the River Mersey here. Most of the town is within the boundaries of the Historic counties of England, historic county of Cheshire, with the area north of the Mersey in the historic county of Lancashire. Yugen (ballet)
''Yugen'' is a one-act ballet by Wayne McGregor, to Leonard Bernstein's ''Chichester Psalms''. The ballet premiered on 15 March 2018 at the Royal Opera House, danced by The Royal Ballet. Production The ballet was McGregor's first new work for The Royal Ballet in two years, and was created for Bernstein's centennial. The ballet is performed by eleven dancers. The sets are designed by Edmund de Waal, a writer and potter, and features light boxes. The costumes are designed by Shirin Guild, and all dancers are in red loose-fitted outfits. The title of the ballet means the "beauty evoked with an economy of means" in Japanese (幽玄 in kanji). ''Yugen'' is a co-production with the Dutch National Ballet, and the company will debut the ballet in September 2022. It is rescheduled from the original April 2020 date due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Netherlands. Ballett Zürich, formerly known as Zürich Ballet, is the largest professional ballet company in Switzerland. Its principal venue is the Zürich Opera House and it regularly tours across the country. The company includes an ensemble cast of 36 dancers and 14 junior members. Christian Spuck has directed the company since 2012, assuming the role from Heinz Spoerli.
