Bacardi Limited ( , , ) is the largest privately held, family-owned spirits company in the world. Originally known for its Bacardí brand of white rum, it now has a portfolio of more than 200 brands and labels. Founded in Cuba in 1862 by Facundo Bacardí i Massó, a Spanish businessman born in Sitges, Bacardi Limited has been family-owned for seven generations, and employs more than 8,000 people with sales in approximately 170 countries. The Cathedral of Rum in Cataño, Puerto Rico is the world's largest rum distillery. The Bacardi Distillery is located on and consists of forty-four buildings and structures, twenty-four of which contribute to its historical character. Emilio Bacardí y Moreau (1844–1922) was a Cuban industrialist, politician, and writer who managed the Bacardi, Bacardi Rum Company and served as the first democratically elected mayor of Santiago de Cuba, Santiago. Biography Emilio Bacardí y Moreau was born in Santiago de Cuba, Spanish Cuba on June 5, 1844. Emilio was the son of Don Facundo Bacardí Massó and his wife Lucía 'Amalia' Victoria Moreau, a woman from a very prosperous family of French Haitians, Franco-Haitian descent. Facundo Bacardi
Don Facundo Bacardí Masó (, ; 13 October 1813 – 9 May 1886) was a Spanish businessman who, in 1862, founded the eponymous Bacardi rum distillery. Biography Bacardí was born in Sitges ( Garraf, Catalonia, Spain), son of a bricklayer. In 1828, he followed his older brothers to Cuba, finding employment in their general store in Santiago. In 1843 he established his own mercantile shop in Santiago, three months after marrying Lucia 'Amalia' Victoria Moreau, a woman from a very prosperous family of Franco-Haitian descent. Amalia and her family would come to the financial aid of Facundo repeatedly throughout the course of their business ventures. Bombay Sapphire is a brand of gin that is distilled by the Bombay Spirits Company, a subsidiary company of Bacardi, at Laverstoke Mill in the village of Laverstoke in the English county of Hampshire.
