BRICS Summits
BRICS is an international organization, intergovernmental organization comprising ten countriesBrazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates. The idea of a BRICS-like group can be traced back to Russian foreign minister Yevgeny Primakov and to the two forums RIC (Russia, India, China) and IBSA Dialogue Forum, IBSA (India, Brazil, South Africa). BRIC (economics term), BRIC was originally a term coined by British economist Jim O'Neill, Baron O'Neill of Gatley, Jim O'Neill and later championed by his employer Goldman Sachs in 2001 to designate the group of emerging markets. The 1st BRIC summit, first summit in 2009 featured the founding countries of Brazil, Russia, India, and China, where they adopted the acronym BRIC and formed an informal diplomatic club where their governments could meet annually at formal summits and coordinate multilateral policies. The Union of International Associations (UIA) is a non-profit organization, non-profit non-governmental organization, non-governmental research institute and documentation center based in Brussels, Belgium, and operating under United Nations mandate. It was founded in 1907 under the name Central Office of International Associations by Henri La Fontaine, the 1913 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and Paul Otlet, a founding father of what is now called information science. The UIA is an independent research institute and a repository for current and historical information on the work of global civil society.
