BIJ1 (; ), formerly known as Article 1 (), is a political party in the Netherlands. It was founded in Amsterdam in 2016 by Sylvana Simons, a politician who was formerly briefly connected to another party, Denk (political party), Denk. Edson Olf has led the party since September 2023. Silvana Hildegard "Sylvana" Simons (Dutch pronunciation: Help:IPA/Dutch, [sɪlˈvaːnaː ˈsimɔns]; born 31 January 1971) is a Suriname (Kingdom of the Netherlands), Surinamese-born Dutch politician and former television presenter. She served as a member of the House of Representatives (Netherlands), House of Representatives between 2021 and 2023 on behalf of BIJ1, an egalitarian anti-racist party founded by Simons in 2016. She was born in Suriname (Kingdom of the Netherlands), Suriname and moved to the Netherlands while an infant. She was a dancer in the Amsterdam nightlife scene before becoming a VJ (media personality), VJ for the new music channel TMF Nederland, TMF in 1995. Simons left four years later to join Talpa TV, SBS Broadcasting, where she presented reality television series (2000). Denk (, ; and ), legally registered as ("Political Movement Denk"), is a political party in the Netherlands, founded on a minority rights platform. The party was founded by Tunahan Kuzu and Selçuk Öztürk, two Turkish Dutch members of the House of Representatives, after leaving the Labour Party on 13 November 2014. Upon winning three seats at the 2017 election, Denk became the first migrant-founded party to gain seats in the Dutch national parliament. Although the party has been colloquially described as a "Muslim political party", Denk "does not promote Muslim candidates as do most similar political parties in Europe". Anja Meulenbelt
Anja Henriëtte Meulenbelt (born 6 January 1945) is a Dutch writer and former politician of the Socialist Party (SP). She wrote ('The Shame is Over'), published in 1976, which was a piece of second-wave feminist writing in the Netherlands. The novel was confessional in tone, and made the connection between the body and language politics overt. She also wrote several books about the Palestinians and the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. She was a Senator from 2003 to 2011. In August 2014, Meulenbelt terminated her membership of the SP, because she felt the party did not speak out enough against Israel's military actions in the Gaza Strip. 2017 Dutch General Election
General elections were held in the Netherlands on Wednesday 15 March 2017 to elect all 150 members of the House of Representatives (Netherlands), House of Representatives. The incumbent government of Prime Minister Mark Rutte was the first to serve a full term since 2002 Dutch general election, 2002. LGBT Rights In The Netherlands
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) rights in the Netherlands are among the most advanced in the world. Same-sex sexual activity was legalized in 1811 after France invaded the country and installed the Napoleonic Code, erasing any remaining sodomy laws. No more sodomy laws were enacted after the country received independence. An age of consent equal with that of heterosexual activity was put in place in 1971. During the late 20th century, awareness surrounding homosexuality grew and society became more tolerant of gay and bisexual people. The changes eventually led to homosexuality's declassification as a mental illness in 1973 and a ban on discrimination based on sexual orientation in the military. Social integration is the process during which newcomers or minorities are incorporated into the social structure of the host society. Social integration, together with economic integration and identity integration, are three main dimensions of a newcomers' experiences in the society that is receiving them.
