Irna Phillips created ''As the World Turns'' as a sister show to her other soap opera ''Guiding Light''. With 13,763 hours of cumulative narrative, ''As the World Turns'' has the longest total running time of any television show. In terms of continuous run of production, ''As the World Turns'' at 54 years holds the fourth-longest run of any daytime network soap opera on American television, surpassed only by ''General Hospital'', ''Guiding Light'', and ''Days of Our Lives''. ''As the World Turns'' was produced for its first 43 years in Manhattan and in Brooklyn from 2000 until 2010. Nielsen Media Research (NMR) is an American firm that measures media audiences, including television, radio, theatre, films (via the AMC Theatres MAP program), and newspapers. Headquartered in New York City, it is best known for the Nielsen ratings, an audience measurement system of television viewership that for years has been the deciding factor in canceling or renewing television shows by television networks. ''The Edge of Night'' is an American mystery crime drama soap opera, created by Irving Vendig and produced by Procter & Gamble Productions. It debuted on CBS on April 2, 1956, and ran as a live broadcast on that network for most of its run until November 28, 1975. The series then moved to ABC, where it aired from December 1, 1975, until December 28, 1984. 7,420 episodes were produced, of which some 1,800 are available for syndication. Writer Sir P. G.
