Calton (, ), known locally as The Calton, is a district in Glasgow. It is situated north of the River Clyde, and just to the east of the city centre. Calton's most famous landmark is the Barras (market), Barras street market and the Barrowland Ballroom, one of Glasgow's principal musical venues. No official definition of Calton's boundaries exist, notionally it can be thought of as the roughly trapezoidal area bounded by the River Clyde to the south, Abercromby Street to the east (where it borders both Camlachie and Bridgeton, Glasgow, Bridgeton), and the City Union Line railway to the north and High Street, Glasgow, High Street/Saltmarket to the west. Cadder
Cadder (Scottish Gaelic: ''Coille Dobhair'') is a district of the town of Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire, Scotland. It is located 7 km north of Glasgow city centre, 0.5 km south of the River Kelvin, and approximately 1.5 km north-east of Bishopbriggs town centre, sited on the route of the Forth and Clyde Canal. There is a Glasgow council housing scheme of a similar name, generally pronounced Cawder, in the district of Lambhill some to the south-west along the Canal, which was built in the early 1950s. Similarly, within Cadder, there is Cawder Golf Club, which also uses that original pronunciation. History In antiquity, Cadder was the site of a Roman fort on the route of the Antonine Wall. Budhill
Budhill is a neighbourhood in the east end of Glasgow. It is situated north of the River Clyde. It is situated between Springboig to the north-east, Greenfield to the north-west and Shettleston to the south. The area is associated with Scottish rock band The Fratellis, where the band used to play in a studio above a Chinese restaurant. The Fratellis also released a collection of songs from 2006 to the present day, called 'The Budhill Singles Club'. The name "Budhill" refers to the area of Glasgow where Barry was born. They also visit Budhill Square during the video for Creepin' Up the Backstairs. Budhill Square is also the location of Shettleston railway station (managed by ScotRail). Broomhill, Glasgow
Broomhill is a district in the West End of the city of Glasgow, Scotland. North of the River Clyde, it is bounded by the districts of Thornwood and Partick to the south, Hyndland to the east, and Jordanhill, Scotstoun and Victoria Park to the west. The main streets in the district are Crow Road and Broomhill Drive. Crow Road is a main artery in the West End and provides links to Partick at its south end and Anniesland at its north end. Transport to and from the area is supported by First Glasgow bus services 4 & 16 along Crow Road, and various "dial buses" on Broomhill Drive, and the nearby train stations of Hyndland and Jordanhill. Broomhouse is a residential area in Glasgow, Scotland. It is about east of the city centre. Historically a small mining village and later the site of the Glasgow Zoo, in the early 21st century it grew substantially as an affluent Suburb, commuter suburb. Although close to Baillieston and within the Glasgow boundaries, the neighbourhood has a G postcode area, G71 postcode which has often led to it being associated with Uddingston, the main town for that district which is about southeast in the South Lanarkshire local authority area. Location Broomhouse is in the south-east of the Glasgow city area. Bridgeton, Glasgow
Bridgeton (, ) is a district to the east of Glasgow city centre. Shires of Scotland, Historically part of Lanarkshire, it is bounded by Glasgow Green to the west, Dalmarnock to the east and south, Calton, Glasgow, Calton to the north-west at Abercromby Street/London Road and Broad street to the north-east. History It started as a small weaving village in 1705, when the third John Walkinshaw marked out a portion of his Goosefauld estate for rent. However, not much interest was shown until 1776 when Rutherglen Bridge was built over the River Clyde and the area became known as ''Bridge Town'' (or ''Brig Toun'' in Scots). Blairdardie is a neighbourhood in the Scottish city of Glasgow. It is situated north of the River Clyde in the north-west of the city and is surrounded by other residential areas: High Knightswood, Knightswood, Old Drumchapel, Drumchapel and Garscadden. It was built between the 1950s and early 1960s.
