Arconic
Arconic Corporation is an American industrial company specializing in lightweight metals engineering and manufacturing. Its products are used worldwide in aerospace, automotive, packaging, oil and gas, building and construction, defense, commercial transportation, consumer electronics, and industrial applications. The business today known as Arconic was originally part of Alcoa Inc. The name Arconic was first used in 2016 when Alcoa Inc. was separated into two companies, Alcoa Corporation and Arconic Inc. Arconic Inc. was further separated in 2020 into Howmet Aerospace Inc., focused on engineered products, and Arconic Corporation, focused on rolled aluminium products. On August 18, 2023, private equity firm Apollo Global Management completed the acquisition of Arconic. In 2024, the official inquiry into the 2017 Grenfell Tower fire in London, which killed 72 people, identified Arconic cladding as "by far the largest contributor" to the disaster. Grenfell Tower Fire
On 14 June 2017, a List of fires in high-rise buildings, high-rise fire broke out in the 24-storey Grenfell Tower block of Public housing in the United Kingdom, flats in North Kensington, West London, England, at 00:54 British Summer Time, BST and burned for 60 hours. Seventy people died at the scene and two people died later in hospital, with more than 70 injured and 223 escaping. Klaus Kleinfeld
Klaus-Christian Kleinfeld (born 6 November 1957 in Bremen, West Germany) is a German businessman. He worked as the CEO of businesses including Siemens AG, Alcoa Inc, and Arconic. Kleinfeld joined a marketing consulting firm in 1982, then worked briefly at Ciba-Geigy before joining Siemens AG in 1987 where he rose to become CEO from 2005. Kleinfeld's efforts to modernize the company led to conflict with defenders of Siemens' traditional business culture. However, the company's financial performance flourished. In 2006, a German government investigation uncovered slush funds in secret bank accounts maintained by Siemens in order to win contracts. Investigators found no evidence of wrongdoing by Kleinfeld and no charges were brought against him. The Grenfell Tower Inquiry was a British public inquiry into the Grenfell Tower fire, which killed 72 people and destroyed Grenfell Tower on 14 June 2017. It was ordered by Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Prime Minister Theresa May on the day following the fire.
