Amsterdam-Zuidoost
Amsterdam-Zuidoost (; "Amsterdam-Southeast") is a borough (''stadsdeel'') of Amsterdam, Netherlands. It consists of four residential neighborhoods— Bijlmermeer, Venserpolder, Gaasperdam and Driemond—as well as the Amstel III/ Bullewijk Business Park and the Amsterdam Arena entertainment and shopping district. Geographically, Amsterdam-Zuidoost is an exclave of Amsterdam as it does not border any of the other boroughs. , Amsterdam-Zuidoost had almost 84,000 inhabitants. History The largest neighborhood of Amsterdam-Zuidoost is Bijlmermeer, planned in the 1960s as a modern, functional 'town of the future' in accordance with the principles of the Swiss architect Le Corbusier. Bijlmermeer
The Bijlmermeer (), or colloquially the Bijlmer (), is a neighborhood in the Amsterdam-Zuidoost borough ( Dutch: ''stadsdeel'') in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The other neighborhoods in Amsterdam-Zuidoost are Gaasperdam, Bullewijk, Venserpolder and Driemond. History Bijlmermeer The Bijlmermeer was originally the name of a lake. In the early 17th century, more agricultural land was needed near Amsterdam. The grain imports from countries at the Baltic Sea became more expensive. So it was decided to drain the Bijlmermeer to increase domestic grain production. Land reclamation began in the 1620s. By 1626 it was transformed into a polder. It was also a former municipality in North Holland. In 1840, there were 23 houses and circa 180 inhabitants. Between 1812 and 1817, the municipality was annexed by Weesp. Boroughs Of Amsterdam
The boroughs of Amsterdam (; "city parts") are the seven principal subdivisions of the municipality of Amsterdam, Netherlands. Each borough is governed by a directly elected district committee (''bestuurscommissie''). The first Amsterdam boroughs were created in 1981, with other boroughs created in later years. The last area to be granted the status of borough was Amsterdam-Centrum (2002). The existing system of seven boroughs, covering most parts of Amsterdam, is the result of a major borough reform in 2010. El Al Flight 1862
On 4 October 1992, El Al Flight 1862, a Boeing 747 cargo aircraft of the Israeli airline El Al, crashed into the Groeneveen and Klein-Kruitberg flats in the Bijlmermeer (colloquially "Bijlmer") neighbourhood of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The accident is known in Dutch as the (Bijlmer disaster). Forty-seven people are known to have been killed, including all 4 on board and 43 on the ground. The exact number killed on the ground is uncertain, as the building housed many unregistered residents. Eleven people were seriously injured and 15 received minor injuries. Bullewijk is a neighborhood and business park in the quarter of Amsterdam-Zuidoost (Amsterdam-Southeast), Netherlands. The neighborhood received its name in 1978 and was named after the nearby river of the same name. It was created due to a partial elevation of the ''Bullewijker'' and '' Holendrecht'' polder. Driemond
Driemond is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of Weesp, an Urban area in the municipality of Amsterdam, Netherlands. History Before 1966 Driemond was part of the municipality of Weesperkarspel and named "De Geinbrug", due to the bridge of the same name. The name "Driemond" means "Threemouth" and comes from the three small rivers Gein, Gaasp and Smal Weesp that meet each other in the village. The name Driemond was also the name of a country estate ("buitenplaats") that once stood near the village, but except for the fountain that can be admired in Frankendael in the Watergraafsmeer in Amsterdam, nothing remains of this building. Catharina Pieternella "Ella" Vogelaar (23 December 1949 – 7 October 2019) was a Dutch politician of the Labour Party (PvdA) and trade union leader. Political career After graduating from the HBS in Zierikzee she attended the social academy in Driebergen between 1967 and 1972.
