Alt-J (stylised as alt-J, real name Δ) are an English indie rock band formed in 2007 in Leeds. Their lineup includes Joe Newman (guitar/lead vocals), Thom Sonny Green (drums), Gus Unger-Hamilton (keyboards/vocals), and formerly Gwilym Sainsbury (guitar/bass). Their debut album '' An Awesome Wave'' was released in May 2012 in Europe, and in September 2012 in the United States, and won the 2012 British Mercury Prize. Sainsbury left the band in early 2014. ''This Is All Yours'' is the second album by English indie rock band alt-J, released on September 22, 2014 through Infectious. It was promoted with four singles: "Hunger of the Pine", " Left Hand Free", "Every Other Freckle", and "Warm Foothills". It topped the UK Albums Chart, was runner up in Belgium, Australia, and Canada and reached #4 in the United States. It was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album. Background and recording On May 25, 2012, Alt-J released their debut album '' An Awesome Wave'', which won the Mercury Prize in 2012. ''The Dream'' is the fourth album by English indie rock band alt-J, released on 11 February 2022 by Infectious Music and the Canvasback Music division of Atlantic Records. It was promoted with the single "U&Me", which was released alongside the album's announcement on 22 September 2021. The track listing for the album was also revealed on this date through publication ''Stereogum''. "Get Better" was released as the album's second single on 3 November 2021 and was accompanied by a pixel-art music video. "Hard Drive Gold" was released as the album's third single on 5 January 2022. Tessellate (song)
"Tessellate" is a song by English indie rock band alt-J from their debut studio album, ''An Awesome Wave'' (2012). The song was written by Joe Newman, Gus Unger-Hamilton, Gwilym Sainsbury and Thom Green and produced by Charlie Andrew. It was originally released on 13 October 2011 as a double A-side single with “ Bloodflood”, before being released separately on 13 July 2012 as the album's third single. Music video A music video to accompany the release of "Tessellate" was first released on YouTube on 9 July 2012. The video was directed by Ben Newbury and is an artistic reworking of the famous painting '' The School of Athens'' by Raphael, using 21st century characters in a room similar to the painting's background ( Panthéon, in Paris). Thom Sonny Green
Thomas Stuart Green (born November 5, 1985), known professionally as Thom Sonny Green, is an English drummer and electronic music producer. Green attended Leeds University, where he met the musicians with whom he would found the band Alt-J in 2007. The band released its debut album, ''An Awesome Wave'', in 2012, followed by ''This Is All Yours'' in 2014. In 2016, Green released a solo album of electronic music entitled ''High Anxiety''. The album was recorded over a span of several years while on tour with Alt-J, and reflects Green's medical problems with anxiety and major hearing loss due to Alport syndrome. '''' |
Infectious Music
Infectious Music is an independent record label owned by BMG, whose bands have included Alt-J, Ash and The Subways. History Infectious Music was established in 1993 as Infectious Records by former Zerra One drummer Korda Marshall after leaving Bertelsmann ( BMG-Ariola, the original major label BMG company), where he was the A&R manager of RCA Records and was involved with the running of Dave Stewart's AnXious label. Marshall left BMG as one of the acts he had co-signed, Take That, were not getting enough of a return on BMG's investment in the early 1990s (this being the time before they had released "Pray)" with Marshall going on to launch Infectious on 27 April 1993. The Mercury Prize, formerly called the Mercury Music Prize, is an annual music prize awarded for the best album released in the United Kingdom by a British or Irish act. It was created by Jon Webster and Robert Chandler in association with the British Phonographic Industry and British Association of Record Dealers in 1992 as an alternative to the Brit Awards. The prize was originally sponsored by Mercury Communications, a brand owned by Cable & Wireless, from which the prize gets its name. ''Loud and Quiet'' is a British bi-monthly music magazine that focuses on new music from underground indie, alternative, electronic and hip hop artists. History and profile The magazine was founded in January 2005 by Stuart Stubbs as a home-printed fanzine in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. It relocated to London in 2006.
