Allerdale Borough Council Elections
The election of councillors to Allerdale Borough status in the United Kingdom, Borough Council in Cumbria, England took place every four years. The council was established in 1974 and it was abolished in 2023. The last elections were in 2019. At the 1999 boundary review, there were 56 councillors in 31 wards. This changed in 2019 following another boundary review. The number of councillors was reduced to 49 and the number of wards reduced to 23. Allerdale
Allerdale was a non-metropolitan district of Cumbria, England, with Borough status in England and Wales, borough status. Its council – Allerdale Borough Council – was based in Workington, and the borough had a population of 96,422 at the 2011 census. The District of Allerdale was formed under the Local Government Act 1972, on 1 April 1974 by the merger of the municipal borough of Workington, the Urban district (Great Britain and Ireland), urban districts of Maryport, Cockermouth and Keswick, Cumbria, Keswick; and the rural districts of Cockermouth Rural District, Cockermouth and Wigton Rural District, Wigton, all of which were within the administrative counties of England, administrative county of Cumberland. 2019 Allerdale Borough Council Election
The 2019 Allerdale Borough Council election took place on 2 May 2019, to elect all 49 members of Allerdale Borough Council in Cumbria, United Kingdom. The number of councillors had been reduced from 56 at the previous election, meaning several seats were combined. Four seats were uncontested, all of which were won by members of the Conservative Party. The result was a change in administration of the council, from a Labour Party minority to a coalition of Conservatives and independents.
