Albert-Eden is a local government area in Auckland, in New Zealand's Auckland Region. It is governed by the Albert-Eden Local Board and Auckland Council, and is located within the council's Albert-Eden-Puketāpapa Ward. Geography The area include the suburbs of Greenlane, Epsom, Mt Eden, Balmoral, Sandringham, Kingsland, Morningside, Owairaka, Mount Albert, Waterview and Point Chevalier. It is a high density residential area with strong transport connections. Morningside, New Zealand
Morningside is a suburb of Auckland, New Zealand. It lies four kilometres south-west of the city centre, close to Eden Park and Western Springs Reserve. The residential suburb lies between the suburbs of Grey Lynn, Kingsland, Sandringham, and Mount Albert, near the arterial North-Western Motorway and Western Railway line. The name comes from a farm estate called "Morningside" that was subdivided in 1865 for housing lots. The suburb is centred on the Morningside shops which are located on the New North Road, near the Morningside railway station. One of Morningside's largest buildings is the 1920s brick building which formerly housed the Mount Albert Borough Council until Mt Albert was amalgamated with Auckland City in the late 1980s. The house was built in 1862 for Alfred Buckland, a wealthy colonial settler and landowner. The building sits in an elevated position above Newmarket. Eden Park
Eden Park is New Zealand's largest sports stadium, with a capacity of 50,000. Meola Creek
Meola Creek is a waterway in Auckland, New Zealand. It is situated in Integrated Catchment Area #1 within Auckland City's drainage network. The catchment consists largely of a natural valley that runs down from the north-east slopes of Mt Albert (Owairaka), north of Mt Albert Road. The upper section of Meola Creek flows along the boundary of the Western Springs College and through the Kerr-Taylor Reserve. The area around the creek is subject to a combination of residential, commercial and recreational activities, which result in the stream being entirely piped upstream of the Chamberlain Park Golf Course, and strongly contaminated with urban pollutants such as zinc and lead. Meola Creek drains into an estuarine area of the mid-Waitematā Harbour, on a low-lying part of the Auckland isthmus. Oakley Creek
Oakley Creek ( mi, Te Auaunga) is a creek in Auckland, New Zealand. While heavily human-modified (being surrounded for most of its length by suburban development, especially in the upper reaches), it has a number of important ecological features, such as having the only natural waterfall on the Auckland isthmus (which is also the largest in urban Auckland). The least modified regions, with mostly natural channels and significant riparian vegetation, exists between approximately Blockhouse Bay Road and the inlet at the northern edge of Waterview. A walkway runs along a good part of the creek in the section northwest of Mt Albert. Mount Saint John (New Zealand)
Mount Saint John ( Māori: ''Te Kōpuke''; also known as Te Kōpuke / Mount Saint John and Tītīkōpuke), is a volcanic scoria cone and Tūpuna Maunga (ancestral mountain) in Epsom, in the Auckland volcanic field of New Zealand. Geography and geology It has a peak 126 metres above sea level and a crater around 125 m wide and 20 m deep. The age of Te Kōpuke Mount / St John is currently unknown but is older than 28,500 years old as the scoria cone is mantled in ash from Te Tatua-a-Riukiuta volcano. Te Kōpuke / Mount St John is now known to be the source of the long lava flow that ran west down an old stream valley and out into the Waitematā Harbour as Meola Reef. Maungawhau / Mount Eden
Maungawhau / Mount Eden is a scoria cone and Tūpuna Maunga (ancestral mountain) in the Mount Eden suburb of Auckland, New Zealand. Geography The cone is a dormant volcano and its summit, at above sea level, is the highest natural point on the Auckland isthmus. The majestic bowl-like crater is deep. The volcano erupted from three craters 28,000 years ago, with the last eruptions from the southern crater filling the northern craters. The western face of the hill was extensively quarried. This is the site of a large ecological restoration project run by volunteers. Naming ''Maungawhau'' is a Māori-language name meaning 'mountain of the whau tree'. Ōwairaka / Mount Albert
Ōwairaka / Mount Albert, also known as Te Ahi-kā-a-Rakataura, is a volcanic peak and Tūpuna Maunga (ancestral mountain) which dominates the landscape of the Owairaka and Mount Albert suburbs of Auckland. Etymology The main Māori name of the peak is ''Ōwairaka'', which means 'Place of Wairaka'. Wairaka was the daughter of Toroa, the commander of one of the great voyaging canoes, ''Mātaatua''. Wairaka is renowned for naming Whakatāne, a town in the Eastern Bay of Plenty where she saved the ''waka'' from drifting out to sea. She is depicted in the Statue of Wairaka located at Whakatāne Heads. Wairaka subsequently moved to Tāmaki Makaurau to avoid an arranged marriage and set up her own pā at Ōwairaka. Point Chevalier
Point Chevalier (; commonly known as Point Chev and an original colonial name of Point Bunbury after Thomas Bunbury) is a residential suburb and peninsula in the city of Auckland in the north of New Zealand. It is located five kilometres to the west of the city centre on the southern shore of the Waitematā Harbour. Waterview, New Zealand
Waterview is a suburb of Auckland, New Zealand, located along the western side of Auckland's isthmus.
