Aforia
''Aforia'' is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family (biology), family Cochlespiridae. Description The shell resembles ''Irenosyrinx'', but with stronger Sculpture (mollusc), sculpture with narrow, low ribs and with a paucispiral, elongate Operculum (gastropod), operculum, bearing such a relation to the normal species of ''Turris'' as ''Mohnia'' bears to ''Chrysodomus''. The nucleus is terminal. Gastropods of this genus are among the largest members of the family Cochlespiridae in the Pacific Ocean, with adult shell sizes reaching up to 92 mm. Distribution Species of this genus inhabit the Pacific Ocean, the southwestern Atlantic Ocean and the southeastern Indian Ocean; also in the cold waters off Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego, the Falkland Islands and the South Shetlands. Habitat These species are predominantly found in sublittoral and relatively deep waters. However, detailed descriptions of the specific composition of ''Aforia'' in bathyal and abyssa ...

Aforia Circinata
''Aforia circinata'', common name the ridged turrid, is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Cochlespiridae. Description The shell grows to a length of 75 mm. The slender, elongated shell is coated with a brownish epidermis. It features six evenly rounded whorls, characterized by a sharp carina. Above the carina, the shell is smooth, while below it, the surface is grooved with wider interspaces. The deep anal sinus is situated approximately one-third of the way from the carina to the suture. (Original description) The shell is slender and elongated, covered with a brownish epidermis. It features six whorls with a single, sharp, narrow carina located around the middle of the upper whorls. This carina does not disrupt the even roundness of the whorls but appears as if it were placed on the equator of the whorl after its formation. The posterior surface of the carina and the area behind it are nearly smooth, marked only by microscopic revolving st ...

Aforia Goniodes
''Aforia goniodes'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Cochlespiridae. Description The shell size varies between 40 mm and 85 mm (Original description) The high, narrow shell exhibits a biconical shape, with a subscalar profile. It features a long, unconstricted base and a nearly equal-sided snout, which is angulated by a pronounced keel and adorned with regular fine spiral threads throughout. The axial sculpture consists solely of fine, regular, close, hair-like growth lines. The spiral sculpture is marked by a strong angulation in the middle of each whorl, created by the straight, drooping line of the shoulder and the straight, contracting line descending to the inferior suture. This angulation pinches out into a sharp, round-edged keel. Fine, sharp threads cover the entire surface, evenly distributed and of equal strength. On the penultimate whorl, there are about six such threads below the keel, separated by flat, broad intervals ...

Aforia Goodei
''Aforia goodei'', common name Goode's turrid, is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Turridae, the turrids. Description The length of the shell varies between 50 mm and 90 mm. (Original description) The shell is large and thin, predominantly white with a hint of pale orange in the throat and on the columella. It comprises eight or more whorls, with the protoconch missing in the specimens examined. The surface is generally slightly eroded but glistens when in perfect condition. Below the periphery, the spiral sculpture features narrow, shallow grooves that separate wider, almost obsolete threads. At the periphery, there is an obtuse carina that is sharper on the early whorls. Behind this carina is a wide, shallow sulcus, followed by the whorl rounding towards the distinct but unchannelled suture. The upper or posterior part of the whorl shows fine spirals that are perceptible but fainter than those in front of the periphery. The transvers ...

Aforia Crebristriata
''Aforia crebristriata'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Cochlespiridae. It is also considered as the type species of the genus '' Dallaforia'' through its synonym ''Irenosyrinx crebristriata'' Dall, 1908 Description The length of the shell attains 48 mm, its diameter 16.5 mm. (Original description) The shell is of moderate size. It is white and is covered with a pale yellow periostracum. The acute spire is slightly shorter than the aperture. The six whorls, excluding the (lost) nucleus, are rounded. The distinct suture is prominent. There is no axial sculpture apart from incremental lines, except on the (eroded) apical whorls. The siphonal fasciole is wide, extending from the suture to an obscure ridge that forms the shoulder of the whorl just behind the periphery. The fasciole features six or seven smooth, rounded, subequal spiral threads with equal or wider interspaces, which become more crowded anteriorly. Beyond the shoulder, ...

The 1½ whorls of the protoconch are white and vitreous, polished, and nearly smooth, featuring faint spiral lines and growth lines. The seven whorls of the teleoconch are adorned with spiral sculpturing, marked by a moderate angulation just behind the periphery of the body whorl. This angulation becomes sharper and more pronounced on the earlier whorls. (Original description) The shell, waxen white and moderately sized, has a fusiform shape with an acute spire. The siphonal canal is elongated. The protoconch consists of two smooth, bulbous whorls, followed by five additional whorls. The axial sculpture exhibits only faint incremental lines. The spiral sculpture features a very prominent, thin, sharp peripheral keel and fine spiral striae with wider interspaces covering most of the surface. Toward the base, the interspaces become more rounded and coarser in texture. The entire area between the keel and the preceding suture forms the anal fasciole, with a wide arcuate sulcus situated just ahead of the suture. The base of the shell is neatly rounded and tapers at the beginning of the siphonal canal. The outer lip is thin, sharp, and extends promi ...
