Yaakov Abuhatzeira
Rabbi Yaakov Abuhatzeira (, ) also known as the Abir Yaakov and Abu Hasira (1806–1880), was a leading Moroccan-Jewish rabbi of the 19th century. Biography In 1879, Abuhatzeira left his native Morocco and embarked on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land via Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya. While passing through the Egyptian Nile Delta city of Damanhour, he grew ill and died. He was buried in Damanhour, where his tomb has become a site of pilgrimage to this day. Pilgrimage Every year on the 19th of Tevet a ceremony is held at his tomb in Egypt, often attended by hundreds of devotees, many travelling from Israel. The tomb is an official antiquity site protected by the government of Egypt. Some Egyptians have protested against permitting Israeli pilgrims to enter Egypt to make the annual pilgrimage to Rabbi Abuhatzeira's tomb. Baba Sali
Yisrael Abuhatzeira (; 26 September 1889 – 8 January 1984), known as the Baba Sali (; ; ) was a leading Moroccan Sephardic rabbi and kabbalist who was renowned for his ability to work miracles through his prayers. His burial place in Netivot, Israel has become a shrine for prayers and petitioners. Early life and family Yisrael Abuhatzeira was born on Rosh Hashanah 5650 (1889). He was the scion of the distinguished Abu Hasira/Abuhatzeira family of Sephardic Torah scholars and tzadikim who were also known as ''baalei mofet'' (miracle workers). He is the grandson of Yaakov Abuhatzeira. The patriarch of this family was Shmuel Abuhatzeira. Born in the Land of Israel, Shmuel lived in Damascus for a while, where he studied Torah together with Chaim Vital. Nahariya
Nahariya () is the northernmost coastal city in Israel. As of , the city had a population of . The city was founded in 1935 by Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi Germany. Etymology Nahariya takes its name from the stream of Ga'aton River, Ga'aton (river is ''nahar'' in Hebrew), which bisects it. History Bronze Age The ruins of a 3,400-year-old Bronze Age citadel were found in the coastal city of Nahariya near the beach on Balfour Street, at a site known to archaeologists as ''Khirbet Kabarsa''. Elazar Abuhatzeira
Elazar Abuhatzeira () also known as Baba Elazar (9 August 1948 – 28 July 2011) was an Orthodox Sefardi rabbi and kabbalist in Israel. He was born in Rissani, Morocco to Rabbi Meir and Simcha Abuhatzeira, was the grandson of the Baba Sali, Rabbi Yisrael Abuhatzeira, and the brother of Rabbi David Chai Abuhatzeira of Nahariya. He moved to Israel in 1966 and studied at the Porat Yosef Yeshiva. He later moved to Beersheba where he ran a yeshiva. He behaved with extreme asceticism and holiness, not eating meat or poultry for more than thirty years for fear of kosher ! He reduced his eating and sleeping to the bare minimum! He was especially known for guarding his eyes from inappropriate sights ! To this end, he wore a cloak that covered his face and took care to build a tunnel from the synagogue to his house so that he would not have to walk on the street even a little! Baruch Abuhatzeira
Baruch Abuhatzeira (; born 1941), also known as Baba Baruch, is a Moroccan-Israeli Kabbalist rabbi and spiritual adviser who operates in Netivot, a blue-collar town in southern Israel. He is the son of the leading Moroccan rabbi Israel Abuhatzeira, also known as the Baba Sali,The Shaping of Israeli Identity: Myth, Memory and Trauma. Robert Wistrich, David Ohana (ed.) p. 224-226 and thus scion of the Abu Hasira/Abuhatzeira family. Baruch was born in Arfoud in the Tafilalt region in eastern Morocco. There, he was educated by his father. During his youth Baruch spent several years in Paris. In the mid-1960s, Baruch emigrated to Israel with his father, and he decided to pursue a political career. He was elected deputy mayor in Ashkelon, and served on the city council as the leader of the local MAFDAL (National-Religious Party) faction. Isaac Abuhatzeira
Isaac ( ; ; ; ; ; ) is one of the three patriarchs of the Israelites and an important figure in the Abrahamic religions, including Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and the Baháʼí Faith. Isaac first appears in the Torah, in which he is the son of Abraham and Sarah, the father of Jacob and Esau, and the grandfather of the twelve tribes of Israel.
