Aardvark-Vanaheim Titles
Aardvark-Vanaheim is a Canadian independent comics, independent comic book publisher founded in 1977 by Dave Sim and Deni Loubert and is best known for publishing Sim's ''Cerebus the Aardvark, Cerebus''. For a brief time, the company also published other titles, sometimes under the name Aardvark One International. This was mainly in the early 1980s, and most of these titles moved to Deni Loubert's new company, Renegade Press. Since the 1980s the majority of titles published by the company were related to ''Cerebus'', although since the final issue of ''Cerebus'' was published, A-V has gone on to publish other works by Sim, including ''glamourpuss (comics), glamourpuss''. In July 1984, Aardvark-Vanaheim was threatened with possible legal action by Marvel Comics over a parody of Marvel's Wolverine (character), Wolverine character in ''Cerebus the Aardvark, Cerebus''. Dave Sim (born 17 May 1956) is a Canadian cartoonist and publisher, known for his comic book ''Cerebus the Aardvark, Cerebus'', his artistic experimentation, his advocacy of self-publishing and creators' rights, and his controversial political and philosophical beliefs. Sim rose to prominence with ''Cerebus'', which began in December 1977. Sim initially conceived it as a parody of ''Conan the Barbarian (comics), Conan the Barbarian'' and other sword and sorcery comics, but after two years he began to consider the series a self-contained work that would run for 300 issues and be subdivided into Graphic novel, novels. Mirage Studios
Mirage Studios was an American comic book company founded in 1983 by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird in Dover, New Hampshire. The company was best known for the ''Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'' (''TMNT'') comic book series and the subsequent franchise it has spawned. Michael Zulli
Michael Zulli (December 20, 1952 – July 8, 2024) was an American artist known for his work as an animal and wildlife illustrator and as a comic book illustrator. Best known for his work on the Sandman. Career Michael Zulli's career in the comics industry began in October 1986 with ''The Puma Blues'', on which he collaborated with writer Stephen Murphy. The monthly title was published by Dave Sim's Aardvark One International and later by Mirage Studios. Zulli illustrated the characters, wildlife and natural landscapes in the polluted post-industrial environment of the story's not-too-distant future. The ecological warnings of the series put forward an argument for natural conservation and against the abuse and pollution of the natural environment. Stephen Murphy (comics)
Stephen Murphy is an American comic book writer and editor known for his work on the ''Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'' series. With Michael Zulli, he was co-creator of the critically acclaimed 1980s independent comic ''The Puma Blues''. Education Murphy graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a BA in Communication Studies. Career Murphy wrote ''The Puma Blues'', which ran from 1986 to 1989, first published by Aardvark One International and later by Mirage Studios. In 1988, Murphy was an initial signatory of the Creator's Bill of Rights. The Puma Blues
''The Puma Blues'' is a comic book written by Stephen Murphy (comics), Stephen Murphy and drawn by Michael Zulli. It ran from June 1986 in comics, 1986 to early 1989 in comics, 1989, stretching over 23 regular issues and a single "half-issue" minicomic. In 2015 it was re-issued in a collected edition by Dover Publications, Dover Comics & Graphic Novels with a new 40-page conclusion by Murphy and Zulli. She created the newspaper comic strip '' Neil the Horse'', which ran from 1975 to 1991. Neil The Horse
Neil the Horse is a comic book character created by Canadian cartoonist Katherine Collins (as "Arn Saba") in 1975. Neil is a happy, singing and dancing horse who likes bananas and milkshakes. Neil's adventures were syndicated in Canadian newspapers, published in a comic book series, and adapted for a radio musical. The comic book series featured Neil and his friends Soapy the Cat and the romantic marionette Mam'selle Poupée. All three of the characters sing, dance, and play music. Jim Valentino (born October 28, 1952) is an American writer, penciler, editor and publisher of comic books, best known for his 1990–1992 work on '' Guardians of the Galaxy'' for Marvel Comics, and for co-founding Image Comics, a company publishing creator-owned comics.
