National Democratic Institute
The National Democratic Institute (NDI) is a non-profit American non-governmental organization whose stated mission is to "support and strengthen democratic institutions worldwide through citizen participation, openness and accountability". It is funded primarily by the United States and other Western governments, by major corporations and by nonprofits like the Open Society Foundations. The NDI was founded in 1983, shortly after the United States Congress created the National Endowment for Democracy (NED). The NED's creation was followed by the establishment of three related institutes: the Center for International Private Enterprise, the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, and the National Republican Institute for International Affairs, later renamed the International Republican Institute (IRI). 2022 Colombian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Colombia on 13 March 2022. Electoral system Of the 166 members of the House of Representatives, 162 were elected by proportional representation from 33 multi-member constituencies based on the departments, with seats allocated using the largest remainder method. Two members were elected by the Afro-Colombian community, one by the Indigenous community, and one by Colombian expatriates. 2022 Saint Kitts And Nevis General Election
Snap general elections were held in Saint Kitts and Nevis on 5 August 2022, following the decision of incumbent prime minister Timothy Harris to dissolve the parliament on 11 May. Snap elections are constitutionally required within ninety days following the dissolution of parliament. The elections were the first in the country with a female party leader, with businesswoman and environmental consultant Janice Daniel-Hodge leading the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP), which was founded by her father, former Premier of Nevis and pro-Nevis secessionist Simeon Daniel. 2022 Peruvian Regional And Municipal Elections
Municipal and regional elections in Peru were held on Sunday, 2 October 2022, electing authorities for the period 2023–2026. Since 2018, municipal and regional officials cannot serve consecutive terms. Electoral system Regional Regional governments are constituted as the administrative and governing body of the departments of Peru. 2022 Mexican Presidential Recall Referendum
A presidential recall referendum was held in Mexico on 10 April 2022 to decide if incumbent president Andrés Manuel López Obrador should stay in office and serve his full six-year term. The recall had to be approved by an absolute majority of valid votes, and turnout had to be at least 40% for it to be valid. This was the first national recall election in Mexico. It was proposed by López Obrador himself during his candidacy in the 2018 election and requested by opponents and supporters of his government. It was organized by the Instituto Nacional Electoral, triggered by 2.7 million signatures from 17 states representing 3% of the electoral roll, following rules set by the constitution and the Federal Law of Revocation of Mandate. 2022 Grenadian General Election
General elections were held in Grenada on 23 June 2022. The incumbent Prime Minister Keith Mitchell sought a sixth term. National Democratic Congress (NDC) made a return to parliament after nine years of absence, defeating the ruling party New National Party (NNP), which led to Dickon Mitchell becoming the new prime minister of Grenada. This is also the first election since 2008 where the NDC gained seats.
