Shen Yi-ming
Shen Yi-ming (; 30 March 1957 – 2 January 2020) was a Taiwanese military officer who served as a Republic of China Air Force general and the Chief of the General Staff, Deputy Minister of National Defense for Policy, and Commander of the ROC Air Force. On 2 January 2020, he was killed in a military helicopter crash while on a routine mission. Education Shen was born in Shilin, Taipei, Taiwan in 1957, with an ancestral home in Yixing, Wuxi, Jiangsu. He graduated from the Republic of China Air Force Academy in 1979, his general officer classmate included General Wu Wan-chiao (吳萬教) and Lieutenant General Ko Wen-an (柯文安). He graduated from the Air Command and Staff College in 1992 and from the Air War College in the United States in 2002. 2020 Kaohsiung Mayoral By-election
The 2020 Kaohsiung mayoral by-election was held on 15 August 2020 following a successful recall attempt. The registered candidates were Chen Chi-mai representing the Democratic Progressive Party, Li Mei-jhen representing the Kuomintang, and Wu Yi-jheng representing the Taiwan People's Party. Chen Chi-mai won the by-election by a landslide margin with slightly over 70 percent of the votes. He replaced acting mayor on 24 August 2020. Background The by-election followed a successful recall attempt against Kaohsiung mayor Han Kuo-yu on 6 June 2020. By law, the Central Election Commission (CEC) was mandated to announce the results of the recall vote within seven days of the vote itself. Alex Michael Azar II (; born June 17, 1967) is an American attorney, businessman, lobbyist, and former pharmaceutical executive who served as the United States secretary of health and human services from 2018 to 2021. The Huannan Market ( zh, t=環南綜合市場, s=环南综合市场, first=t, p=Huánnán Zònghé Shìchǎng) is a marketplace in Wanhua District, Taipei, Taiwan. History The discussion on the construction of the new building of Huannan Market started in 1999 to rebuild the old market building on the site. In 2008, the Taipei City Government had briefing sessions with the market vendors to inform on the reconstruction planning of the market. The construction of the new market building started on 6 November 2016 in a ceremony preceded by Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je with a cost of NT$5.5 billion. After the completion of the first phase of the construction, the market was opened under trial operation on 12 February 2020. The market was finally fully opened on 25 July 2020. Han Kuo-yu
Daniel Han Kuo-yu (; born 17 June 1957) is a Taiwanese politician. He was a member of the Legislative Yuan from 1993 to 2002, representing a portion of Taipei County for three terms. He later became general manager of Taipei Agricultural Products Marketing Corporation. In 2017, Han contested the Kuomintang chairmanship, losing to Wu Den-yih. Han was elected Mayor of Kaohsiung in November 2018, and became the first Kuomintang politician since Wu in 1998 to hold the office. He was the KMT candidate for the 2020 Taiwanese presidential election, but lost to Tsai Ing-wen. 2020 Kaohsiung Mayoral Recall Vote
The 2020 Kaohsiung mayoral recall vote was a recall election held on 6 June 2020 to recall the incumbent mayor of Kaohsiung, Han Kuo-yu. The recall was successful, as the number of ''agree'' votes (939,090) outnumbered ''disagree'' votes and exceeded the minimum requirement of 574,996. An acting mayor was appointed by the Executive Yuan and held office until 24 August 2020, nine days after a by-election was held. The vote is the largest-scale recall vote in Taiwan in terms of electorate, and is the first ever successful recall of a mayor or magistrate. Johnny Chiang Chi-chen (; born 2 March 1972) is a Taiwanese politician. He was the penultimate Director-General of the Government Information Office from 2010 to 2011, a post he resigned to become a member of the Legislative Yuan in which he has served since 2012. In March 2020, he was elected the Chairman of the Kuomintang and assumed office on 9 March until he was succeeded by Eric Chu on 5 October 2021. Early education Chiang was born on 2 March 1972. 2020 Kuomintang Chairmanship Election
The 2020 Kuomintang chairmanship by-election () was held on 7 March 2020. This was the ninth direct election of the party leader in Kuomintang history. All registered, due-paying KMT party members were eligible to vote. Background Kuomintang candidate Han Kuo-yu lost the 2020 Taiwanese presidential election held on 11 January 2020. On the same date, Kuomintang chairman Wu Den-yih announced his intention to resign his post, and stated that other high-ranking officers would also resign. The Special Act for Prevention, Relief and Revitalization Measures for Severe Pneumonia with Novel Pathogens () is a law of the Republic of China (Taiwan) regulating response and relief efforts related to the COVID-19 pandemic in Taiwan. Proposal and passage On 13 February 2020, the Executive Yuan proposed NT$60 billion in subsidies distributed to industries affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. Part of the funds were allocated under the provisions of the Disaster Prevention and Protection Act (災害防救法). Seven days later, on 20 February, the Executive Yuan passed a bill regarding further governmental response to the outbreak. Penalties for hoarding medical supplies, avoiding quarantine restrictions, and disseminating misinformation about COVID-19 were codified.
