Maithripala Sirisena
Maithripala Yapa Sirisena (; ; born 3 September 1951) is a Sri Lankan politician who served as the seventh president of Sri Lanka from 9 January 2015 to 18 November 2019. Sirisena is Sri Lanka's first president from the North Central Province, Sri Lanka, North Central Province of the country and does not belong to the traditional Sri Lankan political elite. He entered as a member of parliament from Polonnaruwa back in 2020 and ended his tenure in 2024. Sirisena joined mainstream politics in 1989 as a member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka and has held several ministries since 1994. He was the general-secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and was Minister of Health (Sri Lanka), Minister of Health until November 2014 when he announced his candidacy in the 2015 Sri Lankan presidential election, 2015 presidential election as the opposition coalition's "common candidate", thus leading to him running against party leader and incumbent president Mahinda Rajapaksa. North Central Province, Sri Lanka
North Central Province ( ''Uturumæda Paḷāta'', ''Vada Mattiya Mākāṇam'') is one of the nine provinces of Sri Lanka. The province has an area of 10,472 km2, making it the largest province by area, and a population of 1,266,663, making it the 3rd least populated province. The city of Anuradhapura is the capital of the province. History The North Central province is home to the ancient cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, both of which were historical capitals of Sri Lanka during ancient times. The two cities were the capitals of the Anuradhapura kingdom (437 BCE–1017 CE) and the Polonnaruwa kingdom (1070–1232) respectively. The provinces of Sri Lanka were established by the British in 1833. Shan Wijayalal De Silva is a Sri Lankan politician and Member of Parliament (MP) for the Galle District since 2020. Since 1 January 2024, he has belonged to the Samagi Jana Balawegaya. He formerly belonged to the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the Freedom People's Alliance. He has previously served three times as the Chief Minister of the Southern Province from 2004 to 2019. Rohitha Bogollagama
Chandrasekera Rohitha Bandara Bogollagama (born 6 August 1954) (known as ''Rohitha Bogollagama'') ( Sinhala: රෝහිත බෝගොල්ලාගම, ) is a Sri Lankan lawyer and politician. He is a former Governor of Eastern Province, having earlier served as the Cabinet Minister of Foreign Affairs from 28 January 2007 until he was defeated in the General Elections held on 8 April 2010, losing his seat in parliament. He had a long career in law, from 1976 to 1999, before being elected to the Sri Lankan parliament in 2000 from the United National Party, and then crossed over to Sri Lanka Freedom Party, serving as the chief organiser for the Kotte Electorate. Anuradha Yahampath () is a Sri Lankan textile designer, exporter and former Governor of the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka. She is also the director of Kandys, a handloom brand in Sri Lanka and she is also the current chairperson of the National Entrepreneurs Association of Sri Lanka. Career Yahampath is an alumnus of the University of Leeds where she completed her degree in Textile Design. She joined the popular handloom brand Kandygs, owned by her mother Sita Yahampath. In 2018, her contributions to export sector of the country were recognised by the Export Development Board and was awarded for the best innovative exporter. The Central Province ( ''Madhyama Paḷāta'', ''Maddiya Mākāṇam'') is one of the nine provinces of Sri Lanka. The province has an area of 5,674 km2 and a population of 2,421,148, making it the 2nd most populated province. The city of Kandy has been its capital since 1469.
