Broadcasting Authority Of Ireland
The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI; ) is a former broadcasting authority which regulated both public and commercial broadcasting sector in Ireland. It was established in 2009, effectively replacing the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) (). It was dissolved in 2023 and its staff and functions were transferred to a new body entitled . History *The Authority came into being under the Broadcasting Act 2009. *The Independent Radio and Television Commission (IRTC) was established under the terms of the Radio and Television Act 1988. This act allowed the first legal stations not operated by RTÉ, the national broadcaster, to come into existence. Prior to this commercial broadcasting in Ireland had been unlicensed and illegal. RTÉ Aertel
RTÉ Aertel was a teletext service broadcast on RTÉ One and RTÉ2 in Ireland from 1987 until 2023. It was also available in its entirety on the Internet until 2019. History The teletext service began development in the mid-1980s, with tests as early as 1985, including a six-week on-air experimental version being broadcast in early 1986. The service was formally launched on 22 June 1987 with pages being updated between 10am and 10pm. Originally called simply ''Aertel'', it gained the RTÉ prefix along with RTÉ's other activities from September 2003. The RTÉ.ie news service used to simply wrap Aertel's output into their web pages, with the service also available on WAP. A selection of RTÉ Aertel pages were broadcast in-vision during daytime downtime and when morning programmes began, pages were shown overnight on rotation on RTÉ Two after normal programming, under the title ''Nightscreen''. ''This Morning'' is a British daytime magazine programme that is broadcast on ITV. It debuted on 3 October 1988 and is broadcast live every weekday from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm across the United Kingdom, and in Ireland by Virgin Media One. The programme features a variety of news, showbiz, fashion, health and beauty, lifestyle, home and garden, food, tech, live phone-ins, and competitions. The show was originally presented by husband and wife duo Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan for more than a decade after its launch. It is currently presented by Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley from Monday to Thursday with Dermot O'Leary and Alison Hammond presenting on Fridays. ''Ireland AM'' is an Irish morning television show on Virgin Media One. It airs live every weekday from 07:00 to 10:00, and weekends from 9:00 to 12:00. The program features news, current affairs, weather updates, showbiz, fashion, beauty, food, health, home and garden. Its current weekday presenters are Alan Hughes, Muireann O'Connell and Tommy Bowe. The show is currently sponsored by Fairy, Febreze, Lenor, Ariel and Flash while the programme was previously sponsored by P&G, Unilever, Dolmio and Kellogg's. From late 2019 to March 2020, Ireland AM was the longest live breakfast programme in Europe in terms of broadcast length, airing for four hours from 07:00 until 11:00. Virgin Media Sport
Virgin Media Sport (formerly TV3 Sport) is a sports production unit at Virgin Media Television in Ireland which produces specialist sports content for its television channels Virgin Media One, Virgin Media Two, and Virgin Media Three. The department launched a sports channel in September 2018. The Virgin Media Sport TV Channel ultimately closed on 12 April 2022, to make way for Virgin Media More, a general entertainment TV channel, which would now host the defunct sports channel's content instead.
