2019 PBA Season
The 2019 PBA season was the 44th season of the Philippine Basketball Association. The league continued to use the three-conference format, starting with the Philippine Cup. The Commissioner's Cup and the Governors' Cup are the second and third conferences in the upcoming season. Due to the major adjustments in the league calendar, the start of the league's 44th season was set to January 13, 2019. This was the first time since 2003 that the league opened their season in January or February. The PBA Leo Awards will be held during the opening ceremonies of the 2019 season while the 2018 PBA draft is set on December 16. The schedule is also affected by the Philippine national team's participation in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup and the Southeast Asian Games. PBA On ESPN 5
The PBA on One Sports is the branding for presentation of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) games which started since the 2011–12 PBA season, 2011-12 season. Telecasts are produced by One Sports (formerly Sports5 and ESPN5), the sports division of TV5 Network, TV5 Network Inc., and aired through One Sports (TV channel), One Sports and PBA Rush, with simulcast and livestreaming on Cignal Play, Pilipinas Live and Smart LiveStream. Also, there is a separate coverage in English commentary on PBA Rush since July 15, 2016. The PBA Leo Awards, formerly known as the PBA MVP Awards Night (1975–1992) and PBA Annual Awards (1993–2002) is an annual awards ceremony of the Philippine Basketball Association to honor the achievements of its players for the season. The winners are awarded with The Leo, named in honor of the league's first commissioner, Leo Prieto. Alfrancis P. Chua (born January 17, 1966) is a Filipino sports executive and former basketball player and coach. He is currently the team manager of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and the sports director of San Miguel Corporation (SMC), overseeing the professional sports teams of the SMC group (Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, the San Miguel Beermen, and the Magnolia Hotshots). Ginebra San Miguel, Inc. (; GSMI), formerly La Tondeña Distillers, Inc., is a Philippines-based diversified beverage company majority-owned by San Miguel Food and Beverage, Inc. Joseph Evans "JVee" D. Casio (born September 1, 1986) is a Filipino basketball player for the Blackwater Bossing of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). He was drafted first overall by the Powerade Tigers in 2011 PBA draft. Early life Casio started playing basketball at the age of seven. He started by watching his brother play at their village and started his formal training during his stay at San Beda College, where was part of the San Beda Red Lions, San Beda Red Cubs squad in the NCAA Juniors Division. Alex Compton
Alexander M. Compton (born March 16, 1974) is a Filipino-born American retired basketball player and coach. He also served as the head coach of the Alaska Aces of the Philippine Basketball Association. Early life and college career Born in Makati in the Philippines, Compton and his family spent a year in northeastern Thailand when he was ten years old. His parents, both Southeast Asian Studies scholars, were researchers there. Compton moved to Madison from Ithaca, New York in 1988, when his parents began working at the University of Wisconsin. The Phoenix Fuel Masters is a professional basketball team owned by Phoenix Petroleum Philippines, Inc., which debuted in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) in the 2016 Commissioner's Cup. The franchise began after the company acquired the second Barako Bull team in January 2016. Alaska Aces (PBA)
The Alaska Aces were a professional basketball team in the Philippine Basketball Association since 1986 PBA season, 1986 under the ownership of Alaska Milk Corporation (AMC) and the owner of 14 PBA championships, tied with the Magnolia Hotshots for the third-most titles overall. They were one of the most popular teams in the league and the Philippines. Richard "Dickie" Bachmann (born January 11, 1968) is a Filipino sports executive and former basketball player who serves as the chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC). Education Bachmann attended De La Salle University from 1986 to 1991 graduating with a degree in commerce. The TNT Tropang 5G is a professional basketball team currently owned by Smart Communications, a subsidiary of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), playing in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) since 1990. The franchise began in 1990 when Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines, Inc. (PCPPI) acquired a PBA franchise. Under PCPPI, the franchise played under the names Pepsi and 7 Up.
