2018 Thomas & Uber Cup
The 2018 Thomas & Uber Cup (officially known as the 2018 BWF Thomas & Uber Cup) was the 30th edition of the Thomas Cup and the 27th edition of the Uber Cup, the biennial international badminton championship contested by the men and women's national teams of the member associations of Badminton World Federation (BWF). The tournament was hosted by Bangkok, Thailand 20–27 May 2018. The matches were played at Impact, Muang Thong Thani, IMPACT Arena. It was the second time that Thailand hosted the Thomas Cup and the first time hosted the Uber Cup tournament and the first time this event was held in Southeast Asia since 2010 Thomas & Uber Cup, 2010 in Malaysia. Di Zijian
Di Zijian (; born 27 February 2001) is a Chinese badminton player. Born in Liaoyang, Liaoning, he started practicing badminton at the age of 10 and entered the Liaoning team when he was 14. Di was selected to join the national youth team in 2017, then became the national second team players at the beginning of 2018. He was two times boys' doubles gold medalists at the Asian Junior Championships in 2017 and 2018, also won the mixed team title with the national junior team in 2018. At the World Junior Championships, he helped the team clinch the gold medal in 2017 and 2018, and won the silver medals in the boys' doubles event in 2017 and 2019. He also showed his achievement in the senior tournament level by reaching the final at the 2018 Lingshui China Masters and finished as the runner-up in the men's doubles event. Matthew Chau
Matthew Chau (born 9 November 1994) is an Australian badminton player. He was four times men's doubles Oceania Champion winning in 2015–2018. Chau competed in the men's doubles at the 2016 Summer Olympics alongside Sawan Serasinghe. Chau picked up his first badminton racquet at age 10, following his parents to the Monash University Badminton Club where they played socially. The now 22-year-old fell in love with the all rounded nature of the sport and says he enjoys that badminton demands speed, strength, endurance, skill, tactical smarts and hard work from its athletes. Chau first partnered with Serasinghe at the 2013 Australian Youth Olympic Festival and the duo went on to secure the Rio quota spot for Australia by winning the 2016 Oceania Championships title. Chen Hsuan-yu
Wendy Chen Hsuan-yu (Traditional Chinese: ; born 1 June 1993) is an Australian badminton player who has represented her country at the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Career Badminton was the family sport and all of Chen's family played. She excelled in her high school years and represented her school in both junior and senior Badminton events. She then turned professional and made her International debut for badminton in 2012. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Chen made her Olympic debut representing Australia. The XIII 2018 Oceania Badminton Championships was the continental badminton championships in Oceania sanctioned by the Badminton Oceania, and Badminton World Federation. This championship was organized by Badminton New Zealand, and was the 13th edition of the Oceania Badminton Championships. It was held in Hamilton, New Zealand from 6 to 11 February 2018. Huang Dongping
Huang Dongping (; born 30 April 1995) is a Chinese badminton player. She is the mixed doubles Olympic Champion at the 2020 Summer Olympics, and was three-time mixed doubles Asian Champion, winning in 2018, 2019 and 2024. Huang was ranked first in the mixed doubles with two different partners. Together with Wang Yilyu, she achieved the world no. 1 in April 2018, and with Feng Yanzhe in November 2024. Wang Yilyu
Wang Yilyu (; ; born 8 November 1994), sometimes also transliterated as Wang Yilu, Wang Yilv or Wang Yilü, is a Chinese badminton player. He is the mixed doubles Olympic Champion at the 2020 Summer Olympics, and was two-time mixed doubles Asian Champion winning in 2018 and 2019. Together with Huang Dongping, he reached a career high of world number 1 in the mixed doubles on 12 April 2018. Career Wang competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics partnering with Huang Dongping as the second seeds. Ayaka Takahashi
is a retired Japanese badminton player who was affiliated with Unisys badminton team. She is an Olympic Games gold medalist, two-time Asian Champion, two-time Asian Games silver medalist, and World Championship bronze medalist. Playing for the Unisys team with her regular partner Misaki Matsutomo in the women's doubles, she won five National Championships titles. In the international event, Takahashi and Matsutomo were ranked world number ones in October 2014. Misaki Matsutomo
is a Japanese badminton player who is a doubles specialist. She won the gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympic women's doubles alongside Ayaka Takahashi. Despite playing doubles, she was also a finalist in girls' singles at the 2010 BWF World Junior Championships in Mexico. Career In 2016, she won the women's doubles gold medal at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She and her women's doubles partner Ayaka Takahashi were also honored with the Female Player of the Year award. They have been playing together for more than ten years, ever since they were schoolmates. Shi Yuqi
Shi Yuqi (; Mandarin pronunciation: ; born 28 February 1996) is a Chinese badminton player.Shi won his first Superseries title in the 2016 French Open. At the 2017 All England Open, he defeated 6-time champion Lin Dan to reach the final, and repeated the same feat again at the 2018 All England Open, where he outclassed Lin Dan in the tournament final.
