Myanmar

Bomb
A bomb is an explosive weapon that uses the exothermic reaction of an explosive material to provide an extremely sudden and violent release of energy. Detonations inflict damage principally through ground- and atmosphere-transmitted mechanical stress, the impact and penetration of pressure-driven projectiles, pressure damage, and explosion-generated effects. Democratic Karen Buddhist Army
The Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA; ) was an insurgent group of Buddhist soldiers and officers in Myanmar that split from the predominantly Christian-led Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), one of the largest rebel factions in Myanmar. Shortly after splitting from the KNLA in December 1994, the DKBA signed a ceasefire agreement with the government of Myanmar in exchange for military and financial assistance; provided that it supported government offensives against the KNU (the political wing of the KNLA) and its allies. In 2009, the DKBA officially joined the Burmese Army as a Border Guard Force. The DKBA -known officially as the Karen Border Guard Force- worked primarily as an auxiliary force in Kayin State for the next 13 years until 2024, when tensions with the ruling military junta of Myanmar grew. U Thuzana
Thuzana (; ), also known as the Myainggyi-ngu Sayadaw (; 1947 – 18 October 2018), was a Karen Theravada Buddhist monk based in Myaing Gyi Ngu, Kayin State, Myanmar. He was the leader of the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA), an ethnic insurgent group, until its dissolution in 2010. Career Thuzana was responsible for a 1992 campaign of constructing pagodas in Kayin State and held the title ''Myaing Gyi Ngu Sayadaw''. Thuzana owned a large piece of land in the Myaing Gyi Ngu area and offered it to the IDPs to build houses there. Myaing Gyi Ngu began as a small IDP village, but later expanded to become a town. Thuzana was formerly a member of the Karen National Union (KNU) until his disagreements with the majority Christian leadership led him to split and create the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA) in 1994. Saw O Moo
Saw O Moo (1975 – 5 April 2018) was a Karen people activist in the Mutraw District of Myanmar who worked as an indigenous wildlife researcher, took on the role of a Luthaw Paw Day community forest coordinator, and actively advocated for Karen people land rights by campaigning for a number of years to establish a Karen people managed and Karen people governed 5,400 km2 Indigenous and Community Conservation Area in the Salween River basin. Yell Htwe Aung (, also spelt Ye Htwe Aung; 7 April 1993 – 2 January 2018) was a Burmese internet comedian and actor who had posted dozens of sit-com style videos to Facebook and YouTube. He made his acting debut in the film ''Ko Saunt Nat'' (My Guardian Angel). Early life and career Yell Htwe Aung was born on 7 April 1993, in Yangon to Burmese Muslim parents. His father had Gujarati Muslim roots from the state of Gujarat on the Northwestern coast of India, and his mother was Burmese Muslim. He began his career by sharing comedy videos on Facebook, frequently collaborating with Kelvin Kate. In 2015, he was offered the opportunity to become an actor. Sittwe
Sittwe (, ), formerly Akyab (), is the capital of Rakhine State, Myanmar (Burma). Sittwe is located on an estuarial island created at the confluence of the Kaladan, Mayu, and Lay Mro rivers emptying into the Bay of Bengal. As of 2019 the city has an estimated population of over 120,000 inhabitants. It is the administrative seat of Sittwe Township and Sittwe District. Names The name Sittwe () is derived from the Burmese pronunciation of Arakanese , meaning "the place where the war meets". When the Burmese king Bodawpaya invaded the Mrauk U Kingdom in 1784, the Rakhine defenders encountered the Burmese force at the mouth of Kaladan river. 2018 Sittwe Bombings
The 2018 Sittwe bombings were a series of three bomb blasts in Sittwe, the capital of Myanmar's Rakhine State. One police officer received minor injuries from the blasts. Background Ethnic Rakhine insurgent groups have been fighting the government of Myanmar since the early 1950s. Bombings are not uncommon in Myanmar due to the various ongoing insurgencies in the country, but they have been a rare occurrence in Rakhine State. However, Rakhine State has experienced an increase in guerrilla-style attacks by insurgents since 2016.
