2018 Tim Hortons Brier
The 2018 Tim Hortons Brier, Canada's national men's curling championship, was held from March 3 to 11, 2018 at the Brandt Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan. The winning team represented Canada at the 2018 World Men's Curling Championship from March 31 to April 8 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, United States. This marked the fifth time the Brier was held in Regina, the first time since 2006. The 2018 tournament was the first to use a new 16-team format, featuring representation by all fourteen member associations of Curling Canada, alongside the defending champions (as Team Canada), and a new wildcard team. As part of this new format, the Bronze medal game was removed from the schedule. Greg Smith (curler)
Gregory Smith (born June 18, 1996) is a Canadian curler from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. He currently skips his own team out of the RE/MAX Centre. Career Smith skipped Team Newfoundland and Labrador at two consecutive Canadian Junior Curling Championships in 2015 and 2016 with his team of Ryan McNeil Lamswood, Kyle Barron and Craig Laing. In 2015, they had a 3–6 eleventh-place finish and in 2016, they finished in ninth with a 5–4 record. While still in juniors, Smith and his team played in the 2015 GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 2 which was held in Paradise, Newfoundland and Labrador. There, they finished with a winless 0–4 record. Smith played in his first Newfoundland and Labrador Tankard in 2018 with his new team of Matthew Hunt, Andrew Taylor and Ian Withycombe. Michael "Mike" Fournier (born November 24, 1971) is a Canadian curler originally from Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec. He currently skips his own team out of Toronto, Ontario. Career Fournier played in his first Quebec Tankard in 2014 at the 2014 Quebec Men's Provincial Curling Championship. His team reached the semifinal where they lost to eventual champions Jean-Michel Ménard. They made it one game further the following year at the 2015 Quebec Men's Provincial Curling Championship, losing in the final to the Ménard rink. Fournier won his first provincial championship at the 2018 WFG Tankard. His team qualified for the playoffs as the fourth seed and won three straight games to claim the provincial title. John Epping
John Allan Epping (born March 20, 1983) is a Canadian curler from Toronto, Ontario. He currently skips his own team out of the Leaside Curling Club in East York, Toronto. Career Junior Men's Born in Peterborough, Ontario, Epping was a top junior curler, having won the Ontario Junior championship in 2004. At the 2004 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, his team finished with an 8–4 record, just out of the playoffs. He won the 2006 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship with Julie Reddick, Scott Foster and Leigh Armstrong. He won the 2007 provincial mixed as well, but could not defend his national title.
