Jordan, officially the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, is a country in the Southern Levant region of West Asia. Jordan is bordered by Syria to the north, Iraq to the east, Saudi Arabia to the south, and Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories to the west. The king of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan () is the monarchical head of state of Jordan. He serves as the head of the Jordanian monarchy—the Hashemite dynasty. Abdullah II (Abdullah bin Hussein; born 30 January 1962) is King of Jordan, having ascended the throne on 7 February 1999. He is a member of the Hashemites, who have been the reigning royal family of Jordan since 1921, and is traditionally regarded a 41st-generation Hashemites family tree, direct descendant of the prophet Muhammad. Abdullah was born in Amman, as the first child of King Hussein and his wife, Princess Muna. Hani Fawzi Mulki (also known as Hani Mulki; ; '; born 15 October 1951) is a Jordanian politician who held several ministerial and diplomatic positions, and he was Chief Commissioner of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority before his designation as the 41st Prime Minister of Jordan by King Abdullah II and approval by the House of Representatives on 29 May 2016. Mulki served as Prime Minister until he submitted his resignation on 4 June 2018 after protests had swept the country because of his government's IMF-backed austerity measures that aimed to tackle Jordan's growing public debt. Klaib Saud Al-Fawwaz (; 15 October 1950 – 8 January 2017) was a Jordanian diplomat, senator, State Minister for Cabinet Affairs and Secretary General of the Eslah Political Party. Early life and education Al-Fawwaz was born in Sabha, Jordan in 1950. His father was Saud Ghaleb Al-Fawwaz, sheikh of the Serdiyeh tribe. When visiting the region in 1913-1914, English traveller and explorer Gertrude Bell visited the Serdiyeh tribe and documented her visit in letters and photographs, which included a photograph of Klaib's grandfather Ghaleb. Al-Fawwaz received his university education at the University of Jordan, where he attained a bachelor's degree in political science. He also received a master's degree in public relations from the Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey in 1977 and a PhD in modern and contemporary history from the Arab History Institute in Baghdad, Iraq in 1995. Georges El-Murr, BC (11 October 1930 in Ka'a at Baalbek, Lebanon – 8 February 2017) was Archbishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Petra and Philadelphia in Amman. Life Georges El-Murr was ordained a priest of the Order of St. John S. Ordo Basilianus Baptistae, Soaritarum Melkitarum (religious symbol: BC) on 27 July 1958. Dr. Rula Butros Audeh Quawas (25 February 1960 – 25 July 2017) was a Jordanian academic known for her advocacy for women's advancement in Jordan and as the first academic to introduce courses on feminism at the University of Jordan. Biography Quawas was born on 25 February 1960 in Amman, Jordan. She attended Al Ahliyya School for Girls in her youth, where her mother was a teacher. She earned her B.A. in 1981 and her M.A. in 1991 from the University of Jordan while simultaneously teaching at high schools in Amman.
