2017 NPSL Season
The 2017 National Premier Soccer League season was the 105th season of FIFA-sanctioned soccer in the United States and the 15th season of the NPSL. Regions and conferences Changes from 2016 Incoming teams The following expansion clubs were announced for the 2017 NPSL season: Moved and/or rebranded teams Outgoing teams Conference realignments There were a number of conferences realigned for the 2017 season. In the South Region the South Atlantic Conference was eliminated and the South Central Conference was split into the Lone Star and Heartland Conferences. In the Midwest Region, the expanded Central Conference was renamed the North Conference and the Great Lakes East and Great Lakes West Conferences were renamed the East and Great Lakes Conferences respectively. National Premier Soccer League
The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) is an American men's association football, soccer league. The league is officially affiliated to the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) and has automatic qualification for the U.S. Open Cup. It is the successor of the Men's Premier Soccer League, a regional league originally based in the Western United States, which has now expanded nationwide to encompass teams from 29 states. The league's motto is "A National League with a Regional Focus". Competition format The National Premier Soccer League is divided into four separate regions (Northeast, South, Midwest, and West). Each region is divided into conferences with a varying number of teams per conference. The regular season runs from May to July with the exception of the West Region that has historically started in late March or early April. Atlanta Silverbacks Reserves
Atlanta Soccer Club was an American soccer team based in Atlanta, Georgia. Founded in 2007 as Atlanta FC, it became the reserve team of the Atlanta Silverbacks in 2011, and licensed the name of the first team when it folded in 2016. On January 4, 2019, the club announced that it had parted ways with Atlanta Silverbacks Park, the owner of the trademarks, and had to rebrand as a result. The logo and colors referred to the peach, a state symbol of Georgia. The final name lasted for two seasons before the club folded. Asheville City SC is an American amateur soccer team based in Asheville, North Carolina. Founded in 2016, the men's team plays in USL League Two, the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid. The women's team was founded in 2017 and played in the Women's Premier Soccer League until joining the newly formed USL W League for the 2022 season. The team colors are blue and white. Legacy is an American soccer team based in Williamsburg, Virginia, United States. The team plays in the Mid-Atlantic Conference of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), the fourth tier of the American soccer pyramid. The team was founded in 1976 as Williamsburg Soccer Club. It played in the USL Premier Development League (PDL), considered roughly equal to the NPSL, until 2009, after which the franchise folded and the team left the league. Virginia Beach City Football Club is an American professional association football, soccer club based in Norfolk, Virginia playing in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) in the Mid-Atlantic Conference of the Northeast Region. The club was founded in 2013 and held its inaugural season in 2014 with their first regular season match on May 17. Since their formation, they have finished in the top three in the Mid-Atlantic Conference every season.
