The National Science and Technology Council (NSTC; ) is a statutory agency of Executive Yuan of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for the promotion and funding of academic research, development of science and technology and science parks. Sean Lien
Lien Sheng-wen (; born February 4, 1970), also known by his English name Sean Lien, is a Taiwanese lawyer who serves as Vice Chairman of the Kuomintang alongside Huang Min-hui and Andrew Hsia. He is co-founder of Evenstar Capital and previously served as chairman of the Taipei Smart Card Corporation, the company which operates EasyCard. Early life and education According to some sources, Lien was born in the United States of America; others indicate that he was born in Taiwan. He is the eldest son of Lien Fang Yu and Lien Chan, who served as the Chairman of the Kuomintang party and was the Vice President of Taiwan. Cianjhen District () is a District (Taiwan), district in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. It covers an area of and is subdivided into 59 villages. The district has a population is 180,097, as of October 2023. It is the fifth-most populated district in Kaohsiung, with a population density of 9,457 people per square kilometer, or 24,494 people per square mile. Kaohsiung Exhibition Center
The Kaohsiung Exhibition Center (KEC; ) is a convention center in Cianjhen District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. History Designed by Australian architect, Philip Cox, the KEC was initiated in 2006 and built by the Ministry of Economic Affairs in which has invested NT$ 3 billion to the venue. After seven years of planning and two years of construction, the grand opening of the center was held on 14 April 2014. Organization The Kaohsiung Exhibition Center Corporation manages the daily operation and maintenance of the center for the next 12.5 years. The company invested NT$ 250 million to upgrade the center and expects to generate return on investment of up to NT$ 3.4 billion by the end of 2026. Sunflower Student Movement
The Sunflower Student Movement is associated with a protest movement driven by a coalition of students and civic groups that came to a head between March 18 and April 10, 2014, in the Legislative Yuan and later, the Executive Yuan of Taiwan. The activists protested the passage of the Cross-Strait Service Trade Agreement (CSSTA) by the then-ruling Kuomintang (KMT) at the legislature without a clause-by-clause review. The protesters perceived the trade pact with the People's Republic of China would hurt Taiwan's economy and leave it vulnerable to political pressure from Beijing, while advocates of the treaty argued that increased Chinese investment would provide a "necessary boost" to Taiwan's economy, that the still-unspecified details of the treaty's implementation could be worked out favorably for Taiwan, and that to "pull out" of the treaty by not ratifying it would damage Taiwan's international credibility. February 28 Incident
The February 28 incident (also called the February 28 massacre, the 228 incident, or the 228 massacre) was an anti-government uprising in Taiwan in 1947 that was violently suppressed by the Kuomintang–led nationalist government of the Republic of China (1912–1949), Republic of China (ROC). Directed by Taiwan Province, provincial governor Chen Yi (Kuomintang), Chen Yi and president Chiang Kai-shek, thousands of civilians were killed beginning on February 28.
