The president of Serbia (), officially styled as President of the Republic (), is the head of state of Serbia. The current officeholder is Aleksandar Vučić, who was elected in 2017 and has held the role since 31 May 2017. According to the Constitution of Serbia, the president represents Serbia at home and abroad, proposes a candidate for the position of Prime Minister of Serbia to the National Assembly of Serbia, leads foreign policy by appointing and dismissing ambassadors, leads the Serbian Armed Forces, has limited executive powers, and can dissolve the National Assembly and schedule parliamentary elections. Tomislav Nikolić
Tomislav Nikolić ( sr-Cyrl, Томислав Николић, ; born 15 February 1952) is a Serbian former politician who served as the president of Serbia from 2012 to 2017. A former member of the far-right Serbian Radical Party (SRS), he disassociated himself from the party in 2008 and formed the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) which he led until 2012. Born in Bajčetina, a village near Kragujevac, Nikolić was a long-time member of parliament for SRS. He served as the Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia from 1998 to 1999 and Deputy Prime Minister of FR Yugoslavia in the coalition government from 1999 to 2000. Nikolić was the deputy leader of SRS from 2003, and he briefly served as the President of the National Assembly of Serbia in 2007. Ivica Dačić
Ivica Dačić ( sr-cyrl, Ивица Дачић, ; born 1 January 1966) is a Serbian politician serving as deputy prime minister of Serbia since 2022 and minister of internal affairs since 2024. He has been the leader of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) since 2006. Dačić graduated from the University of Belgrade in 1989 and joined SPS in 1991. He quickly rose up the ranks of the party, becoming its spokesman in 1992, under his mentor, Slobodan Milosević, President of Serbia and FR Yugoslavia. After the fall of Milošević, he served as the minister of information in a transitional government from 2000 to 2001. Dačić became SPS party leader in 2006. Velika Ivanča Shooting
A spree shooting occurred in the Serbian village of Velika Ivanča in the early hours of 9 April 2013. Thirteen people were killed and one, the gunman's wife, was injured. Police identified the gunman as 60-year-old Ljubiša Bogdanović, a relative of many of the victims. Bogdanović died of his injuries two days later on 11 April 2013. Velika Ivanča ( sr-cyr, Велика Иванча, ) is a village situated in Mladenovac municipality in Serbia. The village is southeast of Belgrade. 2013 Velika Ivanča shooting Velika Ivanča was the site of one of the deadliest spree shootings in modern-day Serbia. The shootings occurred in the early hours of 9 April 2013, when a gunman killed thirteen people, including six men, six women, and a two-year-old boy, before he tried to kill himself and his wife. They were both taken to hospitals in critical condition. The shooter, Ljubiša Bogdanović, died from his injuries two days later, while his wife survived. The First Agreement of Principles Governing the Normalisation of Relations, informally known as the Brussels Agreement ( / ''Briselski sporazum'', ), is an agreement to normalize relations between the governments of Serbia and Kosovo. Jovanka Broz (; sr-Cyrl, Јованка Броз, Будисављевић; 7 December 1924 – 20 October 2013) was the First Lady of Yugoslavia from 1952 until 1980 as the wife of Yugoslav president Josip Broz Tito. She was a lieutenant colonel in the Yugoslav People's Army. Born in Lika, she joined the anti-fascist resistance movement in 1941 and served in the Partisan army during World War II, where she was wounded twice and awarded the Order of Bravery. In 1945, she was assigned as Tito’s personal secretary and later became his wife in 1952. As First Lady, she participated in numerous diplomatic events and hosted foreign leaders. In the 1970s, tensions with Tito’s close aides led to accusations of political interference, resulting in her isolation and eventual separation from Tito in 1977.
