Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud
Hassan Sheikh Mohamud ( Somali: ''Xasan Sheekh Maxamuud''; ; born 29 November 1955) is a Somali politician serving as the president of Somalia since 15 May 2022. He previously held the office from 2012 to 2017. Hassan was previously a university professor and dean at SIMAD University, which he co-founded. During 2012 he was elected President of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG). ''Time'' magazine placed him on an annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2013. During 2014 he controversially welcomed the entry of Ethiopian troops into the African Union mission in the wake of the 2006 invasion. Sheikh Mukhtar Mohamed Hussein (, ‎; 1912 – 12 June 2012) was the Speaker of the Parliament of Somalia, and briefly an Acting President of Somalia in 1969. Early life Hussein was born into a Hadame family (part of the larger Rahaweyn clan), in the central town of Xuddur in the Bakool region. Samia Yusuf Omar
Samia Yusuf Omar or Samiyo Omar (; ; 25 March 1991 – April 2012) was a sprinter from Somalia. She was one of two Somali athletes who competed for their nation at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. Omar had grown up in Mogadishu, and trained there during the Somali Civil War despite receiving harassment from local militia groups. Her story at the Olympics was covered by the media, and her performance was well received by the crowd. Following the Games, she hid away from athletics following threats by militant group Al-Shabaab. She ended up in a Hizbul-Islam displacement camp, and in pursuit of competing at the 2012 Summer Olympics, she crossed the border to Ethiopia looking for a safe place to train. She was trafficked north into Libya, where she was imprisoned. Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed (, ‎; 15 December 1934 – 23 March 2012), was a Somali politician and former military official who served as the first President of Puntland from 1998 to 2004. He also played a key role in establishing the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia, Transitional Federal Government (TFG), which he led as President of Somalia from 2004 to 2008.
