2012 Northern Italy Earthquakes
In May 2012, two major earthquakes struck Northern Italy, causing 27 deaths and widespread damage. The events are known in Italy as the 2012 Emilia earthquakes, because they mainly affected the Emilia-Romagna, Emilia region. The first earthquake, registering moment magnitude scale, magnitude 6.1, struck in the Emilia-Romagna region, about north of the city of Bologna, on at 04:03 Italy, local time (02:03 Coordinated Universal Time, UTC). The Epicenter, epicentre was between Finale Emilia, Bondeno and Sermide. Two aftershocks of magnitude 5.2 occurred, one approximately an hour after the main event and another approximately eleven hours after the main event. Seven people were killed. 2011–12 Serie B
The 2011–12 Serie B (known as the Serie bwin for sponsorship reasons) was the eightieth season since its establishment in 1929. A total of 22 teams contested the league: 15 of these were returning from the 2010–11 season, four had been promoted from Lega Pro Prima Divisione, and three had been relegated from Serie A. 2011–12 Serie A
The 2011–12 Serie A (known as the Serie A TIM after its headline sponsors) was the 110th season of top-tier Italian football, the 80th in a round-robin tournament, and the second since its organization under a league committee separate from Serie B. It began on 3 September 2011 and ended on 13 May 2012. The league was originally scheduled to start on 27 August, but this was delayed due to a strike by the players.
