2012 Delaware Elections
Delaware's 2012 general elections were held on November 6, 2012. Primary elections were held on September 11, 2012. Tom Kovach
Thomas H. Kovach (born May 27, 1969) is an American attorney and politician who served in the Delaware House of Representatives from 2009 to 2011 and as the president of the New Castle County Council from 2011 to 2012. A Republican, he ran for the United States House of Representatives seat for Delaware's at-large congressional district in 2012, and lost to incumbent John Carney. Early life and education Kovach was born in Woodbury, New Jersey, but grew up in northern Delaware, where he became an Eagle Scout. He earned undergraduate degrees in chemical engineering and psychology from the University of Delaware in 1992, and went to work for the Environmental Protection Agency as an enforcement officer before receiving a J.D. degree from Rutgers Law School five years later. Karen Weldin Stewart is an American politician. She served as the Delaware Insurance Commissioner from 2009 to 2017. Weldin Stewart unsuccessfully ran for state insurance commissioner in 2000 general election and again in the 2004 Democratic primary. In 2008, insurance commissioner Matthew Denn decided to run for Lieutenant Governor of Delaware rather than reelection to his office, and Weldin Stewart won the three-way primary election to replace him as the Democratic nominee. The lieutenant governor of Delaware is the second ranking executive officer of the U.S. state of Delaware. Lieutenant governors are elected for a term of four years in the same general election as the U.S. president and take office the following January. Jack Alan Markell (born November 26, 1960) is an American politician and diplomat. He had served the United States ambassador both to Italy and to San Marino. He had served as the United States ambassador to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. He previously served as the 73rd governor of Delaware from 2009 to 2017. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Markell served three terms as the state treasurer of Delaware from 1999 to 2009.
