Television In Estonia
Television in Estonia was introduced in 1955, following the Soviet government's decision to establish a television station in 1953. The National television channel Eesti Televisioon (ETV) has maintained an archive since 1955 in which broadcasts of unique aspects of Estonian culture are held. Northern Estonia receives television signals from Finland. During the 1970s and 1980s, Finnish broadcasts were more popular than Soviet-Estonian offerings until the Singing Revolution, with many Estonians enjoying ''Dallas'' and other programs portraying non-Communist lifestyles. Digital television was officially launched on December 15, 2006 when the operator Eesti Digitaaltelevisiooni AS launched its pay service Zuum TV, operated by Starman, on two multiplexes. Getter Jaani
Getter Jaani (born 3 February 1993) is an Estonian singer and actress. She represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 with the song "Rockefeller Street". Early life Getter was born and raised in Tallinn. In 2015, she graduated night school and was awarded a high school diploma. Besides Estonian, she also has Russian ancestry. Career Jaani first became publicly known in Estonia in 2009 as a participant in the third season of ''Eesti otsib superstaari'', the Estonian version of ''Pop Idol''. She finished fourth and her performance gained her role of Sharpay Evans in the Estonian version of ''High School Musical''. Jaani represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011, with her entry "Rockefeller Street" coming in 24th place in the final. That same year, she participated as a celebrity contestant on ''Tantsud tähtedega'', the Estonian version of ''Dancing with the Stars''. The Eurovision Song Contest 2011 was the 56th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Düsseldorf, Germany, following the country's victory at the with the song "Satellite" by Lena. Rockefeller Street
"Rockefeller Street" is a song by Estonian singer and actress Getter Jaani. It was released on 24 January 2011 by Moonwalk Records as the lead single for Jaani's debut studio album, '' Rockefeller Street''. Written by Sven Lõhmus, "Rockefeller Street" was the Estonian entry at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011, held in Düsseldorf, where it placed 24th, one away from last place in the grand final. While the critical response to the song was positive, the Eurovision performance was negatively received. "Rockefeller Street" drew commercial success, peaking at number three in Estonia. Years after the song was performed at Eurovision, an unofficial nightcore version of the song became an Internet meme, leading to an increase in streams of the song and Jaani releasing an official nightcore version of the song. Liis Lemsalu
Liis Lemsalu (born October 20, 1992, in Pärnu, Estonia) is an Estonian singer. 2011 : ''Eesti otsib superstaari'' Lemsalu rose to fame as the winner of the fourth season of ''Eesti otsib superstaari'', the Estonian version of Idol series. After winning, Liis went on tour with other participants of ''Eesti otsib superstaari'' and released a single ''"Kõnnime seda teed"'' together with the runner-up of the show, Artjom Savitski. She was then signed to Universal Music Group. Eesti Otsib Superstaari (season 4)
The fourth season of ''Eesti otsib superstaari'' premiered on February 13, 2011, on TV3. The show was won by Liis Lemsalu. On 9 December 2010, Mihkel Raud, one of the judges, said on his Twitter account, that the fourth season starts in the beginning of 2011. On December 13, it was confirmed by TV3. There were no changes in the judges' panel. The judges were Mihkel Raud, Maarja-Liis Ilus and Rein Rannap. The hosts for the fourth season were two actresses, Hele Kõrve and Evelin Pang. Liis Lemsalu, the winner of the show, was awarded with €10,000 and a record contract with the Universal Music. ''Eesti otsib superstaari'' ''(Estonia is Searching for a Superstar)'' is an Estonian reality-competition gameshow airing on TV3. It debuted on 11 March 2007 and it has since become one of the most popular shows in Estonia. Part of the Idol franchise, it originated from the reality program '' Pop Idol'' created by the British entertainment executive Simon Fuller, first aired in 2001 in the United Kingdom. Õnne 13 is an Estonian dramatic TV series that airs on ETV. The series first aired on 30 October 1993 and was written by Astrid Reinla and as of 1996 by Teet Kallas. Rainer Kerge. Duo 5 (formerly known as Kanal 12 (literal English translation Channel 12)) is an Estonian TV channel. It is owned by the Kanal 2 company. Duo 5 is owned by Duo Media Networks. Ellen Alaküla
Ellen Alaküla (30 April 1927 – 15 January 2011) was an Estonian stage, radio, television, and film actress and theatre teacher whose career spanned over forty years. Early life and education Ellen Alaküla was born in Kohtla-Järve in Ida-Viru County to parents Rudolf Alaküla and Johanna Alaküla (''née'' Lukner). She was one of three siblings; having a brother and a sister. The family moved to Tallinn when she was young. Her father was a stage actor and sang in the church choir and her mother was a homemaker. Her father was later deported to Siberia by Soviet authorities, but was eventually allowed to return to Estonia. Alaküla attended schools in Tallinn; she graduating from secondary school at the Tallinn 5th School. In 1946 and began studying acting and theatre at the now defunct Estonian State Theatre Institute in Tallinn, graduating in 1949. Enn Klooren
Enn Klooren (21 June 1940 – 26 March 2011) was an Estonian actor. Klooren was born in Tallinn and grew up in Türi. After graduating the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in 1968 Klooren worked in the Estonian Drama Theatre. Since 1989, he lived in Järva County, where he organized, among other things, an amateur theatre. Klooren has also played in several movies including ''Metskapten'' (1971), ''Toomas Nipernaadi'' (1983), ''Karoliine hõbelõng'' (1984), ''Tallinn pimeduses'' (1993), ''Jan Uuspõld läheb Tartusse'' (2007) and ''Kormoranid ehk nahkpükse ei pesta'' (2011).
