2011 Canada Winter Games
The 2011 Canada Winter Games were held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, from Friday, 11 February 2011, to Sunday, 27 February 2011. Bids Four bids (all from Nova Scotia, as it was that province's turn) were made for the games, and eventually Halifax was selected to stage the games. * Halifax *Annapolis Valley *Truro, Wentworth and Brookfield with other communities. *Antigonish, Pictou, Guysborough and Port Hawkesbury : Wentworth was part of one of the losing bids, but did end up hosting the alpine skiing and freestyle skiing events at these games. Ski Wentworth
Ski Wentworth is a Canadian alpine ski hill in Nova Scotia's Cobequid Hills. Ski Wentworth is located in the hamlet of Wentworth in the Wentworth Valley, 48 km northwest of Truro and 67 km east of Amherst on Trunk 4. It is the largest alpine ski facility in Nova Scotia, having a 248-metre (815 foot) vertical difference. It features 23 alpine trails, a half-pipe, and 2 terrain parks. The trails are varied in difficulty from beginner to expert and support both alpine skiing and snowboarding. Trails Wentworth also has varied glade or tree trails from intermediate to advanced. Ski Martock
Ski Martock is a ski resort located near Windsor, Nova Scotia, Canada. The facilities feature a downhill area served by a quad chair lift and two T-bars(one functional), a beginners area served by Magic Carpet. The hill features a terrain park for snowboarding and freeskiing. It is the second largest ski hill in Nova Scotia, second only to Ski Wentworth. Martock is the closest downhill ski area to the Halifax Regional Municipality, Atlantic Canada's largest city, being roughly a 45-minute drive away. During the 2011 Canada Winter Games, it hosted the cross country skiing events. Mayflower Curling Club
The Mayflower Curling Club is a curling club in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It was established in 1905. Since 1962, the club has been located at 3000 Monaghan Drive. The club is one of the premier curling rinks in Nova Scotia, being home to teams headed by Colleen Jones, Mark Dacey, Shawn Adams, and Heather Smith-Dacey. Halifax Forum
The Halifax Forum is an arena and multi-purpose facility in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Its uses include sporting events, bingo, ice skating, concerts and markets. It was built in 1927 on the site of the former Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition which was badly damaged by the Halifax explosion in 1917.
