Television In Estonia
Television in Estonia was introduced in 1955, following the Soviet government's decision to establish a television station in 1953. The National TV Channel ETV has maintained an archive since 1955 in which broadcasts of unique aspects of Estonian culture are held. Northern Estonia receives television signals from Finland. During the 1970s and 1980s, Finnish broadcasts were more popular than Soviet-Estonian offerings until the Singing Revolution, with many Estonians enjoying ''Dallas'' and other programs portraying non-Communist lifestyles. Digital television was officially launched on December 15, 2006 when the operator Eesti Digitaaltelevisiooni AS launched its pay service ZUUMtv, operated by Starman, on two multiplexes. Urban Symphony
Urban Symphony was an Estonian music group. It represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with the song " Rändajad", finishing in 6th place with 129 points. In doing this, they achieved Estonia's best placement since 2002. History In autumn 2007, Sandra Nurmsalu took part in the singing talent show called ''2 takti ette'', biennially held by the Eesti Televisioon and broadcast nationwide. In a week of the contest, the contestants were tasked to form bands each on their own and each to produce a performance with it. Nurmsalu had studied the violin for two years in the Georg Ots Music School and had previously arranged the song "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica for a string set of the school. Therefore, she decided to use one again. Nurmsalu turned to her former school, where she was introduced to Mann Helstein playing the viola, Johanna Mängel playing the cello, a female contrabass player and a male keyboardist. Eurovision Song Contest 2009
The Eurovision Song Contest 2009 was the 54th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Moscow, Russia, following the country's victory at the with the song "Believe (Dima Bilan song), Believe" by Dima Bilan. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Channel One Russia, Channel One (C1R), the contest was held at the Olympic Stadium (Moscow), Olimpiysky Arena, and consisted of two semi-finals on 12 and 14 May, and a final on 16 May 2009. The semi-finals were presented by Russian model Natalia Vodianova and television presenter Andrey Malakhov, while the final was presented by Russian television presenter Ivan Urgant and former Russian contestant Alsou, Alsou Abramova, becoming the first and to date only time that two different sets of presenters had hosted the semi-finals and finals. Rändajad
Estonia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with the song "Rändajad" written by Sven Lõhmus. The song was performed by the group Urban Symphony. The Estonian broadcaster Eesti Rahvusringhääling (ERR) organised the national final ''Eesti Laul 2009'' in order to select the Estonian entry for the 2009 contest in Moscow, Russia. Ten songs competed in the national final and the winner was selected over two rounds of voting. In the first round, a jury panel and a public vote selected the top two to qualify to the superfinal. In the superfinal, "Rändajad" performed by Urban Symphony was selected as the winner entirely by a public vote. Estonia was drawn to compete in the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 14 May 2009. Ott Lepland
Ott Lepland (born 17 May 1987) is an Estonian singer. He first received national mainstream attention in 2009, after winning the third season of ''Eesti otsib superstaari''. Lepland represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan with the song "'' Kuula''" placing 6th in the final. Biography Lepland has been singing since he was a child. He released four albums with children songs in 1995 and 1996. At the moment Lepland is studying at Georg Ots' Tallinn Music School pop and jazz singing. He has also studied piano for ten years. Ott has performed in several plays, including the role of Troy Bolton in Estonian State Puppet & Youth Theatre's musical, the Estonian version of ''High School Musical''. Eesti Otsib Superstaari (season 3)
The third season of ''Eesti otsib superstaari'' premiered on September 6, 2009. The winner of the season was Ott Lepland. In Autumn 2008 TV3 announced that the third season would be postponed. The show was replaced by new show ''Eesti otsib lemmiklaulu (Estonia is looking for a favourite song)''. In June 2009 TV3 announced that the auditions for third season will start in August 2009. In July 2009, Estonian Public Broadcasting (ERR) announced that one of the judges, Heidy Purga, is not allowed to take part of that program. Purga is a director of ERR's radio station, Raadio 2. ERR explained that the decision was made, because there is a lot work to do in Raadio 2 at the moment and they will not allow Purga to take part in competitors program. ''Eesti otsib superstaari'' ''(Estonia is Searching for a Superstar)'' is an Estonian reality-competition gameshow airing on TV3. It debuted on 11 March 2007 and it has since become one of the most popular shows in Estonia. Part of the Idol franchise, it originated from the reality program ''Pop Idol'' created by the British entertainment executive Simon Fuller, first aired in 2001 in the United Kingdom. Õnne 13 is an Estonian dramatic TV series that airs on ETV. The series first aired on 30 October 1993 and was written by Astrid Reinla and as of 1996 by Teet Kallas. Rainer Kerge. MTV Eesti was a twenty-four-hour music and entertainment channel operated by MTV Networks Europe. The channel began on 4 September 2006 at 22:00 EEST. The channel was available in Estonia. TV 4 (Estonian TV Channel)
TV4 is an Estonian sports channel, formerly owned Kalev Media and named Kalev Sport. Kalev Sport was launched in late 2007, offering viewers various sporting events, both domestic and international.
