Television In Estonia
Television in Estonia was introduced in 1955, following the Soviet government's decision to establish a television station in 1953. The National television channel Eesti Televisioon (ETV) has maintained an archive since 1955 in which broadcasts of unique aspects of Estonian culture are held. Northern Estonia receives television signals from Finland. During the 1970s and 1980s, Finnish broadcasts were more popular than Soviet-Estonian offerings until the Singing Revolution, with many Estonians enjoying ''Dallas'' and other programs portraying non-Communist lifestyles. Digital television was officially launched on December 15, 2006 when the operator Eesti Digitaaltelevisiooni AS launched its pay service Zuum TV, operated by Starman, on two multiplexes. Sandra Oxenryd
Sandra Oxenryd (born 1 October 1982) is a Swedish singer who won Fame Factory in 2005, and represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006. Biography Oxenryd was born in Kristinehamn and is a former economics student and floorball player. Aged eleven, she started her singing career by performing on national television. At 18, she placed second in a look-alike competition, where she mirrored Swedish superstar Carola Häggkvist. After winning the Swedish Fame Factory in 2005, Sandra recorded her debut album. Eurovision Song Contest 2006
The Eurovision Song Contest 2006 was the 51st edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Athens, Greece, following the country's victory at the with the song "My Number One" by Helena Paparizou. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT), the contest was held at the O.A.C.A. Through My Window
Estonia was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 with the song "Through My Window", written by Pearu Paulus, Ilmar Laisaar, Alar Kotkas, and Jana Hallas, and performed by Sandra Oxenryd. The Estonian participating broadcaster, (ETV), organised the national final in order to select its entry for the contest. Ten songs competed in the national final and "Through My Window" performed by Sandra Oxenryd was selected as the winner by a jury panel. Estonia competed in the semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 18 May 2006. Performing during the show in position 21, "Through My Window" was not announced among the top 10 entries of the semi-final and therefore did not qualify to compete in the final. It was later revealed that Estonia placed eighteenth out of the 23 participating countries in the semi-final with 28 points. Õnne 13 is an Estonian dramatic TV series that airs on ETV. The series first aired on 30 October 1993 and was written by Astrid Reinla and as of 1996 by Teet Kallas. Rainer Kerge. MTV Eesti was a twenty-four-hour music and entertainment channel operated by MTV Networks Europe. The channel began on 4 September 2006 at 22:00 EEST. The channel was available in Estonia. Mikk Mikiver
Mikk Mikiver (4 September 1937 – 9 January 2006) was a prominent Estonian stage and film actor and theater director. Biography Mikiver was born in Tallinn, Estonia. He graduated from the State Conservatory of Tallinn in 1961. He then went on to appear in many Estonian films and was a highly regarded dramatic actor. In addition to stage and film, Mikiver was also a prodigious television actor. While never retiring from acting, Mikiver gradually became more interested in theater direction and was for many years the principal director of the Estonian Drama Theatre and the Estonian Youth Theater. Dajan Ahmet
Dajan Ahmet (né Ahmetov, , also known by the pseudonyms of Jaan Võõramaa and Võõramaa Jean; 22 January 1962 – 4 November 2006) was an Estonian actor and stage director of Tatar heritage. Biography Ahmet was born in Tallinn. He was a 1988 graduate of the Tallinn State Conservatory. Ahmet was one of the founders and leaders of the Salong-Teater and the Lasteteater Trumm in Tallinn.
